Round 2

37 weeks with my second child and I just found out she is breech.... in the transverse lie.... for those of you who don't know, labor is incredibly dangerous in that position and you HAVE to have a c-section.

I had a c-section with my first baby because of this same reason. Didn't have a chance to move her, as I didn't find out until I was 40 weeks with her. I never had a contraction, never went into labor and she was born at 41 weeks.

This one I felt move all over the place and had some mild Braxton hicks that have been picking up here lately, exciting me for the possibility that this baby was in the correct position and my body was gearing up for labor. I had desperately wanted to attempt a vaginal delivery this time around, since myself and baby are otherwise fine and healthy. It was a long healing process from my previous c-section and with my plan to go back to work in 4 weeks and having my 3 year old running around, a second major surgery just isn't ideal for my current situation.... however it appears that that is exactly what is going to happen.

At the end of the day I'm grateful that I can have my children, no matter how they are delivered, but I am so heart broken I can't do this on my own.... in the past, mom and baby would die in this situation.

I had.... just such high hopes.... and they were dashed so quickly....

this is a video of a moxibustion demonstration that i learned about yesterday at my acupuncture appointment.  (this video is *not me* -- nor is this anyone i know... just a good demonstration of moxibustion -- just fyi.)

i brought home a moxa stick and had chad practice for 20 minutes (10 min on each foot).  the experience makes giacomo move around SO MUCH -- but he hasn't spun into proper position, yet...

transverse lie

we learned this week that little lovie is laying horizontally, or 'transverse' in utero.  (silly baby!)  at first i didn't think much of it.  our midwife didn't seem concerned and she suggested that he could easily move in the next eight weeks before he's due.  ...but then i went to my birth class and did a little follow up reading and realized i should start trying to do whatever i can to encourage him to move as soon as possible.  apparently, by week 32, baby should be in the head down & back-to-front position. groan...

so, this week i received the most amazing (intense/painful) pre-natal massage, which also included 'craniosacral' treatment.  i have no idea how it works, but it felt great.  apparently my uterus and surrounding muscles are very tight, which aren't allowing little lovie to shift into the desired delivery position.  hmph.  she also found some other muscles that were ridiculously tight and managed to rub them into a burning, searing sensation of mush.  i'm going back on monday for a follow-up treatment.  (this is probably why i can't seem to find a comfortable position to sit/lay in for any amount of time -- giacomo is laying in the most difficult position, and kicking in all sorts of weird spots.  OUCH!)

meanwhile, i've also visited www.spinningbabies.com and begun the techniques for getting the transverse baby to shift.   

i also intend to follow up with acupuncture procedures and maybe even a call to my hypnotist in seattle, to get a little reinforcement.  

one way or another, we are going to get this little baby to turn!
