Tranter Revolver Engraved by R.S. Garrard & Co. for the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII)
By tradition presented by Albert Edward, Prince of Wales to Prince Abdulhamid (later Sultan Abdulhamid II, reigned 1867-1909) in April 1869, on a state visit to Constantinople, following the visit to London and Windsor by the Sultan and his son in July 1867.
This fine revolver was decorated with a gold cage around the ebony butt and a solid gold trigger guard. The blued steel frame is engraved with scroll and strapwork. The cylinder is engraved en suite with the frame and twice with the crest and motto of the Prince of Wales. The pommel on the butt is of crystal bearing a crowned cypher AE. The red velvet lined case contains a white metal powder flask by G & J W HAWKSLEY and an engraved 54 bore bullet mould and an oil bottle by G & J W HAWKESLEY. On strap: R & S GARRARD & CO. LONDONOn barrel: WILKINSON PALL MALL.
