Even though he really doesn’t need our support, as exemplified by his meteoric rise, we’ve been rooting our hearts out for genre defying grandson ever since he blew our minds with BLOOD // WATER late last year. Jordan Benjamin, the man behind the explosive rock, electronica, hip hop, and trap concoction has since gone on to collaborate with Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda on his solo album as well as turn industry heads and perk tastemakers ears aplenty with his unique and often viscerally affecting music. And now, he’s released his EP, ‘a modern tragedy vol. 1′, a five track collection of songs fittingly out on Fueled By Ramen that features this bluesy seething, electro bristling rap rock anthem, ‘6:00′. Not only does grandson release scintillating music, but he always relates his music to pressing political issues and much pertinent current events. Watch his recent video for BLOOD // WATER below. I can’t get enough of this dark brooding song. It’s. So. Good. Wow. Grab grandson’s new EP, here. Catch him on an expansive North America tour this summer and fall which tragically does not bring him to the Bay. Why? WHYYYY? Please add a Bay Area date, grandson, thanks! Tour dates can be found on his site, here.
High intensity cinematic rock is Columbus four piece Starset’s forte. Blazing electronica is obviously TRAILS’ strong suit. Case in point, the Berlin production project’s brilliant remix of Starset’s Satellite. You can watch the video for the original, here, after which you can marvel at the riveting transformation its undergone in TRAILS dexterous hands. He turns the alt rock track into a razor sawing, riotous romping trap and bass number, complete with an epic searing guitar solo and sharp energetic HudMo like vocal barks. If the terms trap rock or metal trap haven’t been invented yet, perhaps this is the time to do so. Stream more of TRAILS’ compositions on Soundcloud, here.
