contrived hero-villain notion in Poldark

Where do I begin? The show presents or at least tries to present Ross as this hero, savior of mankind and George as this villain, annihilator of mankind. Ross is everything opposite of George yet neither one is better or worse. Also Ross is similar to George,yet again making neither of them better or worse. Ross takes his family, his wife for granted. We barely see him being affectionate towards his children. Even when he holds them, he shows no affection towards them. On the other hand, George highly values his family. He is shown being affectionate towards his child and he wants to make it better for his child than it already is.   Ross puts everyone else before his family even himself while George puts himself and his family above anyone else. In fact there is no anyone else for him other than his family and himself. Ross despises gatherings and societal norms whereas George basks in them, uses it to his advantage (make social connections & forward his wealth). Ross shuns everyone else as materialistic and shallow for enjoying fine clothing and lavish parties, even Demelza, mostly Demelza. It hurts her but he doesn’t see that and doesn’t care. He takes Caroline as a shallow woman, one unsuitable for Enys because of that. On the other hand he loves,adores and idealizes another woman (Elizabeth) who does for that.  Ross and George both are highly ambitious people and stubborn to the end.They stop at nothing to get what they want. They do not care for repercussions and whoever gets hurt in the process. They have this twisted notion of self praising and they both think their way is the right way and is the only way. They barely to never acknowledge their mistakes. More importantly, never learn from them. So summing up this whole rant-Is Ross Poldark really a hero and George Warleggan really a villain?
