The Mourning Swan is almost completely black in color, except for the white hand and arm wings. The neck is longer than that of the Mute Swan. Eyes and bill are strikingly red. There is also a white band at the tip of the bill.

The adult Mute Swan has pure white plumage and a long neck, which it often holds in an s-shape. Its bill is orange. On the other hand, the frontal hump, the nostrils, the tip of the beak and the cutting edges are black. The tail is relatively long and pointed. The Mourning Swan is almost completely black in color, except for the white hand and arm wings. The neck is longer than that of the Mute Swan. Eyes and bill are strikingly red. There is also a white band at the tip of the bill. The female is slightly smaller.
