Rant ahead
Ok so I think you all know by now I’m a doctor. A trauma surgeon specifically. I work at a level 1 trauma center so we get the worst of the worst Which means I spend a decent amount in the ER when I’m not in the OR. Very often, I’m in the ER to meet the critical patients as they come in. And nothing makes me madder than seeing the EMS crews disrespected or docs and nurses dismissing them like they’re not important. These are the people that see our patients in the immediate aftermath of a trauma, that have to get them out of mangled cars, that have to try to keep these patients alive in the back of a moving vehicle to get them where our team can fix them. They see god awful things. They deserve respect and my full attention when they bring a patient in. Without these men and women, I wouldn’t be able to do my job. So if you work in healthcare, especially in the ER, but anywhere you might encounter EMTs and paramedics, give them the respect they deserve.
