If Only [Sal x Travis Angst Drabble]

AN: I'm sorry salvis enjoyers (talking to myself here lol) This takes place during the Bologna Incident. It's my take on that note Travis wrote for (i'm assuming) Sal. Once i'm happier I might drop some non angsty Salvis because I have a soft spot for them. Honestly if Sally Face came out while I was still figuring myself out I would have projected a ton onto Travis. I mean I still do but not as much you know?

CW(S): Internalized homophobia, Implied Suicide/Murder, Brief use of the F-Slur (it's one line.) Brief mention to the Bible (Leviticus 18:22), One Sided Salvis. Honestly this is pretty lukewarm angst. I felt inspired during work but as soon as I got home I just wanted to sleep.

His pen hovered over the paper, hand shaking violently as he reread everything he wrote.

I know we don't really know each other and you probably have your opinions of me. I thought maybe if I told you how I feel, things could be different.

Giving an anonymous confession to Sal was risky for multiple reasons, The biggest one was risking his father finding out. If word got out that the Pastor's son was a homosexual, Travis was as good as dead. Either by his own hands or his Father's. It wasn't clear what possessed him to do such a thing. Perhaps it was the need to get Sal out of his head? If he wrote his feelings down on paper then maybe they'll go away, right?

The truth is, I can't stop thinking about you. I'm crazy about you. I think you're amazing! But I know these feelings are wrong. 

It's not like Travis knew Sal well enough to form a fair opinion on him given that the only time they interacted was when Travis was shoving him in the halls or hurling insults at him as they passed, but from what he observed in class he (Sal) was kind. Something Travis lacked in his normal day to day life. Everywhere he went he was met with pushback and harsh words. Sal was the opposite. He was soft, not weak. Despite everything that he (and life) threw at him Sal never shrunk or turned just as jaded as he was. He never called Travis a fag in return.

Acceptance. Maybe that's what he was searching for.

 It's not the way a boy should feel. Shame swallows me whole. My father would kill me but I can't live in his shadow forever I just...

Blue ink was starting to bleed from the few stray tears that had fallen on the paper. He gripped the pen tightly, not knowing what else to say.

I hate how you make me feel? I wish you were a girl?

He was broken for sure. It was against every teaching that had been drilled into him since he was old enough to understand the words his father shouted from his podium every Sunday meant. He had Leviticus 18:22 burned into his memory by now. Anytime he caught himself staring at Sal for too long he grimaced and grit his teeth. He hated that he felt this way.

he reread the line he wrote again.

The tears streamed down his face fully now, quiet choked sobs echoing into the quiet hallway. He rushed into the boys bathroom, crumpling up the note and tossing it in the trash. He made a beeline for the very last stall and wiped away any tears with the sleeves of his sweater. Boys don't cry, and Boys shouldn't love other Boys.
