"Now Gansey recognized the expression on Ronan's face: arrogance. He had not been afraid for Adam. He had known that Cabeswater would save him. Been certain of it." (Blue Lily, Lily Blue pg. 293).
An interesting moment of meta and foreshadowing here around Ronan's connection to Cabeswater and to Adam. Of course Cabeswater would save Adam, it's Ronan's, and all of Ronan's dreams love Adam as much as he does.
"And they smelled very familiar, like Ronan, or like Cabeswater." (Blue Lily, Lily Blue pg. 162).
Same smell. Wonder why.
Adam stop sniffing your crush.
"'There's going to be life after he dies.'" (The Raven King pg. 82).
Great little moment of foreshadowing - Maura means life for Blue, but of course there will also be life for Gansey.
"Humans were not meant to experience all times at once, but Gansey had to do it anyway." (The Raven King pg. 434).
I love this. Gansey has had all these cyclical lines and moments and experiences and here's the reason why. Noah, in some sense, always has been and always will be with him.
"He had spent the first hour after coming home lying on his face. A small percentage of medieval bodies were buried such; historians thought they were the graves of suicides or witches," (Blue Lily, Lily Blue pg. 171).
This is such a great subtle moment of foreshadowing, just planting this idea with readers for a few chapters later when the kids find Gwen, facedown. Gansey's own narration mentions this same thing before they wake her but if that little fact stuck with you you get to realize it alongside Gansey.
"The Camaro broke down.
It was always breaking down and living again," (The Raven King pg. 347).
Love this as both a call back (to? The first book I think? Saying something similar) which I had also marked as foreshadowing/reflecting Gansey's own death and life. And now we bring it back as he drives the Camaro into the endgame.
"Also her eye hurt.
She'd been doing this for long enough to know that there was something wrong with someone else's eye at some point in time," (The Raven King pg. 121).
I love the way cyclical time creates interesting moments of foreshadowing in these books. This could reference Adam's eyes shortly after his deal with Cabeswater a few books earlier, but it could also reference his loss of control to the demon near the end of this book. Or it could be what happens with Blue's eye in a little bit and unrelated to Adam entirely.
There's a lot of eye horror in these books that I never really noticed...
"if he let them run wild, he would be jealous of Ronan, jealous of Blue, jealous of Gansey with either of the other two." (Blue Lily, Lily Blue pg. 122-3)
Note he won't be jealous OF Gansey like the other two. Specifically Adam would be jealous of Gansey being with one of his crushes.
