TREESCOUNT
Charley volunteers with his friend and neighbor Carol to help NYC Parks set the Guinness World Record for most trees mapped in a single day. They are mapping and assessing the condition of street trees on city blocks. They measure the location of each tree, assess its structure (alive/dead/cut to a stump), measure the trunk circumference, identity the tree species, assess the tree’s health and record information about the tree’s surroundings such as tree guards (helpful or harmful), stewardship practices (mulch, flowers, plants, signs, decorations, seating), sidewalk conditions (cracked or raised), and tree problems (problems with roots, trunk, branches). Charley is used to walking continuously and was not used to stopping at each tree for a few minutes. After a while, he got the idea and would stop and wait until it was time to move again. He met several other friendly dogs and people. He was out for several hours and enjoyed it thoroughly. Upper East Side, Manhattan, NYC
