Neopets advent calendar reminder!! Or, well, in some hours!
Hey Treesitters
Remember when I was making that guild plot that never got finished? (You might not--I don't know if I told everyone about it). It was going to take place in the Haunted Woods and your character was a Starry Korbat looking for a cure to their sibling's disease. It was a continuation of the first guild plot where you saved Jhudora. Each new step was going to have an accompanying comic.
I pretty much finished 5 different puzzles, minus embellishments. I kept them more or less secret for a long time, but since there's no chance this will ever get made, you can check out what I did finish.
- A text-based maze (you have to figure out the maze based on text clues which tell you how many steps you walked, which direction you turned, and let you decide which direction to go every time the path branched). You can actually reconstruct the maze if you draw out your path. It's supposed to take place in the Fetch! maze.
- A minesweeper game; you're crossing a bog and are trying to avoid patches of quicksand. The transparent white blocks (two are provided at the start on the upper left and bottom right corners) mean none of the blocks surrounding it are quicksand, so it's safe to click every square adjacent to it. The rest is regular minesweeper rules.
- A tic-tac-toe match (you played against the Brain Tree and it's impossible to win atm, the best you can do is tie).
- A maths challenge made using Neopian Adventure Generator where you play as an employee of the Spooky Foods shop for a day. Based on an instruction sheet with the prices of every item being sold and directions for how much to haggle as well as conversion rates between different currencies (ie Dubloons-Neopoints), you either accept, reject or accept and give change depending on what customers offer.
- A map of destroyed Neovia where you can talk to over 100 characters to gather clues about certain mysterious events. (Watch them euphemistically talk about death hahaha Neopets censorship) I'm talking to all the characters right now. I honestly can't believe I had so many ideas for so many different characters... some of their lines sound dumb but it's still better than what I think I could write now. I even laughed at what some of them said, which is super lame since I'm basically laughing at my own jokes. Although to be fair, I don't really remember writing them since it was over a year ago and I was basically a whole other person then so maybe it's not so bad.
Is anyone you solving the Desert Diplomacy puzzle over on Neopets? If so I'd like to know if you're up for double-checking our results. I'm still not done figuring it out but when I am I'd let you know I'm done now but since nobody spoke up yet I might just go to the Neoboards and check there :P
BRYNNSO: 1, 3, 5, 6, 10, 13, 16, 18, 20, 28 *thunder and lightning*, 29, 32.
OKAY WOW THAT IS A LOT. Warning: This is a very long post. If you want to skip past it, just press "J" and you'll be sent right to the bottom, no scrolling required. If you're on mobile... I'm so sorry.
In a setting where such behavior wouldn’t be threatening (during the day, with people milling about, etc), a smiling stranger approaches the character and says “you know, you’re pretty cute”. How does the character react?
So I know it's supposed to be a stranger but I keep imagining Hanso saying this to her while she's working. Brynn would get flustered and pretend to be angry, but for a second her heart would skip a beat, and she'd be really, really happy. But then write it off later in her mind as just a joke, even if Hanso truly meant it.
ANYWAY- if it was a stranger, assuming the person was really being genuine, she would be much more polite, but still wonder if they were messing with her.
Hanso would be like, "Hell yea I am."
Without having any time to prepare themselves, the character is asked to go onto a stage and improvise a short speech in front of a crowd. What happens?
Brynn has actually calculated many speeches in her head before. Whether it be an emotional, moving one to tell before a great battle, or an acceptance speech for her new position as Captain, she wouldn't be caught to horribly off-guard (haha, guard. get it. cuz she's... yeaa). She'd be nervous, but it'd go off without any horrible accidents.
Hanso, would be totally unprepared, however, and his short speech would either be two sentences long and end with "So... Yeah.", or he would end up talking about himself, and that could end up taking a while.
The character witnesses a loud, heated argument between a couple while in public, at a place they can’t/don’t want to leave at the moment. How do they react?
Brynn would feel the need to mediate, especially since it's in public, and it's her job to keep the peace. I imagine she'd do well, assuming the couple was cooperative.
Hanso would be far from annoyed, even finding it slightly entertaining. He would try to lighten the mood with the people around them by joking about it. If it went to far and things started being thrown around, he would break it up, if only to make sure nothing expensive got broken.
Does the character pay much attention to their living space’s aestethics? Do they like decorating? Do they take pains to keep their place organized?
For most of her life, Brynn would have lived in a bunk with several other people. Being a soldier, she would also be disciplined enough to clean up after herself. When she finally got her own home, it still remained pretty plain, only holding her essentials. She might slack on things like sweeping and dusting, but her bed would always be perfectly made.
Hanso never really settles down into one spot, but manages to turn it into a horrible mess for the few weeks he's there. He doesn't have a ton of belongings, but somehow they manage to take over the entire room. When he leaves, however, he packs everything up, and it's like he was never there.
If there was something you character could name (characters in a game, beetles bred for experiments, pens, anyting), what naming convention would they pick? Would they bother naming things at all?
Brynn wouldn't be inclined to name very many things. If she got a cat, she would probably name it "Mouser" for it's only useful feature. Similarly, if she attempted to hop on the bandwagon of naming weapons, her sword would be named something like "Cutter."
Luckily, Hanso enjoys giving everything over-dramatic names, and as such, renames her sword "Brynn's Legendary Sword of Wraith Smiting", and calls one of his own weapons "Hanso's Legitimately Acquired Dagger." He would also name some of his trophies similarly.
Does the character care about the type of underwear they wear? Do they like fancy lingerie, or funny boxers, or do they not see the point of fancying up something that almost nobody sees?
I don't think either of them would care very much about that, although Hanso a little more-so. I think the most effort Brynn goes through as far as clothing herself is polishing her armor.
A friend ask your character for relationship advice; they say they love their boyfriend, but that sometimes he publicly says things that make them feel guilty for the money he spends on them, or that he tends to interrupt them mid-sentence and not listen when they’re talking. They do stress how much they love him, and how happy he makes them. What is your character’s advice?
I don't know if this could really happen to Brynn, she's too focused on work to have friends outside of Hanso (who wouldn't really date, and if he did, wouldn't have these problems), and most of the people she works with don't like her. Not to mention no one would ask her for dating advice, due to her complete lack of experience. But, if this did happen, and assuming Hanso was the friend, she would be uncomfortable and have no idea how to handle the situation, and would give some not extremely useful advice like, "maybe you should just talk it out" and dart off. Days later she would be surprised to find out that the advice worked out, and the couple were now doing better than ever. (Although she can't help but wish they weren't)
For similar reasons, to Brynn, I don't know if this could really happen, but again assuming Brynn is the friend in the scenario, he would comfort her, and tell her she deserved a lot more than some loser who didn't even like listening to her talk or buying things for her. Why, if she asked, he would buy her anything, and spend all day with-
At that point they would both realize where the conversation was going and break it off immediately. Brynn's relationship wouldn't last much longer either.
Your character has been working hard for two weeks straight, and its their first night off - without any responsibilities to take care of the next day, with nobody having announced themselves to drop by, basically: the evening is 100% theirs to unwind and relax. What do they do?
Ever the busybody, Brynn would start off cleaning. After tidying what few possessions she had, she would walk down to the library and spend a few hours reading. The night would be fairly mellow, until she runs into a certain thief and has to walk him down to the prison, thus ending her peaceful day off. Not that she minds too much.
Hanso's is pretty easy. He would do what he always does when he has free time- hang around Brynn.
Are there any noises that annoy the character more than others?
I couldn't even think of anything for this one, besides no. I am so sorry.
What is the thing that drew the character to their current love interest/best friend?
Okay I'm going to assume this isn't a "how did they meet" question because then my answer would be REALLY BORING since it's already established in canon.
Hanso, ever talkative, would eventually manage to squeeze words out of Brynn beyond, "Stay quiet," and, "Stop bothering me." When they finally do have some decent conversations, he would be in awe of this girl who has such great goals and honestly wishes for the best for the city, and doesn't treat him like scum even though most people would say she should.
Brynn would be surprised that a thief could be so kind to her, and genuinely enjoy her company. She found that she enjoyed talking to him and listening to his jokes, and could open up more and more to him with every night that past. Before she realized what was happening, he was already her best friend.
What is your character’s biggest physical insecurity? What’s their bigger social/mental one?
Brynn wouldn't care about what she looked like, until the time came that she was invited to something formal, and then she would hate everything. She'd worry she was too muscular to look good in a dress, her hair was too messy to ever be contained, and her face too full of smudges to be clean. Socially, she knew she was good at being a leader and directing people, but had trouble making friends. She wonders if she was only be able to become close to Hanso simply because they were forced to spend time together.
Hanso is, of course, totally convinced he looks amazing, all the time. While he may get caught up on a few things about his appearance from time to time, soon enough he's over it, and back to believing he's the most beautiful thing in town. Most of his social pitfalls are due to the fact that he ends up talking about himself too much if he doesn't know anyone, and everyone gets too annoyed to be around him.
If your character ever wanted to get married, what would their perfect wedding be like?
Marriage hasn't really crossed Brynn's mind, much less what her perfect wedding would be, but if you were to ask she would be very traditional. In a church, on a sunny day, wearing her most polished uniform. She would hope her husband-to-be was a handsome, decorated soldier.
Hanso would just hope Brynn wears a dress.
Would the character laugh at the Spiders Georg post? If not, why are they a piss grouch who hates fun?
Brynn might chuckle at it, but would find all the parodies to be annoying, and drawing out the joke too long.
Hanso would find it hilarious, and would be making half of said parodies.
Once I finish Tor and Roberta I think I might draw Brynn and Hanso next, yes/no?
I might try to do a stream of some of The Darkest Faerie at some point if the Treesitters want to see it
Would any of you be interested? I couldn't really do it any weekday this week, but I might be able to do it this weekend if you guys are free?
I DREW THIS AND WANT TO SHARE IT OK BYE
