Dryads are an arboreal specie of fairy found throughout the world. Highly dimorphic, there appearance is as varied as the various tree species. Nearly every specie of tree has a dryad mimic. 

This acute dimorphism is specie specific. For example, a Birch Dryad is limited to only surviving on Birch Trees.. However there are examples of Dryads occupying different tree species should their skin match closely enough to an alien tree specie. Such as an Oak Dryad occupying a Maple tree. This is short lived and typically only done in dire situations. 

A Dryad will spend most of it’s day hidden. It’s pelt blending seamlessly to the bark of trees. With sharp claws, and seta lined torso, the Dryad can nearly cement itself to a tree.  Dryads will actively hunt throughout the forest, largely feeding on small animals and berries, but it will always return to it’s “home tree.” This is the tree where it will live most of it’s life and rear it’s young.  

Dryad skins are prized by hunters. To have a dryad pelt spells near invincibility while hunting in the woods.

This is HYLDERMODER, a Scandinavian tree faery, the Elder Tree Mother who guards the sacred Elder trees. She is always dressed in a flowing green gown and appears to be an elderly, protective mother. Treat her as you would a Goddess and she may offer help with spells related to tree magic, fertility, wisdom, prosperity or inspiration.
