I realize it's not sunday but I was browsing the cosplay tutorial tag and yeah, but I'm having trouble getting paint to stick to 4 way stretch vinyl, it just chips off or you can see the stretch when it's on. Any tips?
No it’s cool! I answer asks on any given day, I just like to have one day where I sit down and answer a bunch at once =3
Unfortunately vinyl is very tricky when it comes to paint! It’s plastic, and therefore not porous, so it won’t absorb regular paint. What you need is vinyl dye! It bonds to plastic, vinyl and fabric. The only problem is that it is a spray, so you’ll need to tape off your pattern first.
If you need to do detail work, like thin lines, have you considered piping? You’ll need to sew it while the suit is on a dress form or on your body so it sits properly when stretched, but that’s another alternative =)
