Spencer glanced over at Trevor, who had elected to stay behind even though the Shug shoot was over now. His arms were folded across his chest and he was staring at the ground.
"What are you talking about, man?"
"I'm talking—"
Trevor abruptly stopped before he got any further.
"You okay?"
Spencer reached out and touched Trevor's arm in an attempt to show that he was being sincere. He felt Trevor flinch a little under his touch, but Trevor made no other move to get away from Spencer.
Trevor stayed silent, and Spencer couldn't remember if he'd ever seen him like this before. He looked scared, like he was seconds away from bursting out of his skin.
Spencer gave Trevor's arm a very light squeeze.
"You can tell me, Trev. No jokes or other bullshit, I promise."
Trevor finally looked at him, and Spencer couldn't help noticing the dangling earring hanging from Trevor's ear—such a small detail about him, but it was part of what made Trevor so endearing.
"At what point...do the fake lean-ins stop being a joke?"
Spencer blinked a few times. He couldn't blame Trevor for asking; Spencer made the kiss lean-in joke more than once throughout the shoot, and Trevor had rolled with it every time. It felt...natural. And Spencer couldn't lie—Trevor occupying space in his mind was nothing new; wanting to be close to Trevor was nothing new.
"I don't know."
Trevor took a shaky breath, their eyes locked on one another now.
"What if it wasn't a joke anymore?"
Spencer grabbed the front of Trevor's cardigan and gripped it tight.
"Then this, I guess."
Spencer pulled Trevor down toward him until he was closer to eye-level, and firmly pressed his lips against Trevor's mouth. Trevor immediately knocked Spencer's hat off of his head, and Spencer could feel Trevor's hands on his face as Trevor gently kissed him back.
When Spencer pulled away slightly, he could both hear and feel his heart beating wildly inside his rib cage. He covered Trevor's hands with own and couldn't stop himself from grinning.
"Guess it's a good thing we waited until the cameras were off."
Trevor giggled and leaned in for another quick kiss.
