Pretty enough to be china figurines...
My next period watch - the German flick Trenck - Zwei Herzen gegen die Krone which is all about the majorly forbidden looooove between Baron von Trenck, a friend of Frederick the Great, and Frederick the Great’s sister Amelie.
Surprisingly, while I am sure the movie will take a lot of liberties, the bare bones of the story are accurate - Baron von Trenck did fall for Frederick the Great’s sister and got thrown in a nasty nasty jail for it. (From my quick skim through the movie to make sure it d/led OK, I am amused to note that in this version it hints that part of Frederick’s motivation is that he liked the dude himself).
I am super excited because I first encountered Trenck in Georges Sand’s opus Consuelo (where he had the awesome distinction of being the only man not to fall for the Mary Sue heroine). I loved him in that so am excited there is a movie. Yay!
