Trends of Culture - Valley of the Skinz When thinking of early 90s hip hop, this might not be the first song you think of, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not a fantastic example of the symbiotic equation of sample + beat + rhymes. Similar to our recent post of ED O.G & The Bulldogs, Harlem based rap group Trends of Culture were ahead of the curve in sampling Roy Ayers (produced by M.O.L.), and combining the classing melody with a early 90s style drum pattern made for a really dope beat that is a cult classic to many. Whether it be hit records or deeper cuts such as this, it was songs like this that really began to explore previous eras of Black music for younger listeners. #trendsofculture #90shiphop #royayers #goldenerahiphop #hiphop #boombap #hiphop #90s #goldenera https://www.instagram.com/p/CasIzJ7paDJ/?utm_medium=tumblr
