Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin End of Global Service

As of yesterday, August 31st, 2020, the worldwide server for Square Enix’s Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin has been shut down.

The original game, released over a year ago on April 4, 2019 for Android and iOS, served as a prequel story to Valkyrie Profile/Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Although many were disappointed that the next installment of the series was to be a freemium gacha game instead of a main title featuring Hrist, the game exceeded one million downloads within the first two weeks of its release. 

The termination of Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin was announced one month prior on July 5th, 2020 with the following statement:

Dear Einherjar, Thank you so much for being part of our journey beyond death which began with release in April 2019. In order to create a unique experience for global users, we added new features, and made global content for the game. As much as we would like to continue providing new content for all of you, we regretfully announce that we are ending service as of 31. August 2020 due to difficulties. We hope to see you all again in a different world. More events and campaigns still await you, so by all means, we would like you to play until the end!

There has been no word of shutdown for the Japanese servers, opened April 28, 2016, which are still up and running at the time of writing.

Decided to take the character designs from Star Ocean: Blue Sphere and try to recreate them based off their Second Story sprites. Some work better than others, I think. And some are... dated. 😂

Star Ocean: The Second Story turns 20 today. 

Continues to be my favourite RPG and game, hands down. Since I first played it in 1999, made my fansite in 2001 and met many amazing people in the fandom, a handful I still talk to to this day. It’s a game that really kept me going, continues to bring me joy and is always bringing together amazing people in this tiny fandom.

Here is to another 20 years.
