It's counterintuitive, but Gwen Jorgensen's lengthy bike-to-run transition, 45th slowest, may have been a key factor in her ITU Chicago Victory. Here's what happened: she entered T2 in 15th place, but struggled putting on her left running shoe. Rather than panic as seconds ticked on, and a dozen women ran past Gwen, she instead had made a simple but brilliant decision: a few extra seconds spent getting the right fit surely would be recaptured and rewarded with a more comfortable, faster run. Absolutely right: though she began the 10k run having slipped back in 22nd place, Gwen ultimately caught and dropped each on the way to a field-crushing victory. Was it the shoes? They certainly didn't hurt the convincing World Champion. #triathletemag #triathlete #triathlon #ituworlds #itu #usatriathlon #gwenjorgensen #ituworldtriathlon #britt (at Buckingham Fountain)
