Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag ten friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.
(I wasn't tagged but I saw this and stole it from disney-is-our-home.)
1. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
2. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
3. Dreamland by Sarah Dessen
4. The Breaker Boys by Pat Hughes
5. The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare
6. The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
7. Looking for Alaska by John Green
8. Hamlet by Shakespeare (does this count?)
9. The Healer's Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson
10. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce
Oh, and disney-is-our-home had the good idea of not including book series in this list (: So no like Harry Potter or Hunger Games or Lord of the Rings. Which made this a bit harder to think of, because I'd include Harry Potter and Divergent in that list, most certainly.
Legit, though, I have a lot of feelings about Crime and Punishment. When I learned about it in my senior English class, I learned what it was to be a writer. I learned a lot about living. I can't even express what I learned from it. I really miss that class a lot sometimes.
I also read A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man in that class, and at the time it annoyed me, but I still think about it and I find Joyce's writing style inspiring.
Oh, and I read Hamlet then, too! That was a freakin' life-changing class, y'all.
Sarah Dessen is a beautiful and wonderful author who manages to wrap up all sorts of meaning in daily lives and problems that happen to people everywhere. I think about her writing a lot and you can pretty much always find me rereading one of her books. You always find something new in them.
