hi, i saw your post about being scared in Vienna. I'm a Vienna local (though not a swiftie but i feel with y'all so much) and the current situation is scary af, a plannend terror attack is horrible. However, according to the news, all people who seem to be involved in the plans of the terror attack have been arrested. In general, and it probably doesn't feel that way for you rn, Vienna is a very safe city. But those posts saying you can't go outside with Taylor merch on are trying to scare you - I get feeling safer without it but please do not be scared to wear it if you want. It was these very specific people (i.e. The terrorists who have been arrested) who wanted to attack the concert but in general, there's usually no threat in Vienna. i saw some posts claiming people HAVE been attacked, so that's what really scared me. But I'm glad to be wrong if that's not the case. I actually love Vienna, I've been here over 6 times... i picked it BECAUSE i always felt it was a very safe city to be in. I never would have thought something like this could have happened here. I guess it still is safe in the sense that maybe somewhere else the terrorists would not have been caught before a tragedy occured. And I'm very grateful for Austrian authorities for making sure no one got hurt. Right now I'm really kinda... I don't know... sad and defeated i guess. it sounds awful to say but even tho I'm very glad no one got hurt it still kinda feels like they've won. the terrorists i mean. Obviously they wanted to actually hurt and kill people, but part of their objective is to cause fear and panic, and that is something they undeniably achieved. I wish there was a way to rectify this situation

Something I Have To Say:

In an article on nbcnews.com I read today, I learned that several governors in the United States have come out and made statements opposing the resettlement of Syrian refugees here in the U.S.A. in the wake of the Paris attacks. 

This absolutely disgusts me. While I understand the fear of an attack here in the United States, that does not give our country the right to deny safe harbor to those people in Syria who are fleeing from the one thing we are in fear of; deadly attacks. They are fleeing from a country torn apart by war and terrorism. Who are we to deny them safety? Who are we to say “No, you look like those extremists who attacked us on 9/11 and who just attacked Paris, so you can’t come in.” 

THEY ARE NOT ONE IN THE SAME. They are not the inhuman monsters who take life like it is nothing. They are not the sadists who get joy from causing so much pain, heartache, and sheer terror. They are like us. They are in fear for their lives, they are in fear for their homeland, they are in mourning along with Paris, Lebanon, Mexico, etc. 

The idea that we should stop them from entering our country and finding peace, which is what they want just as much as we do, is absurd. They are NOT the extremists of their race. They are NOT the extremists of their religion. They are NOT the same, and to assume that they are is wrong and frankly breaks my heart. 

Should the rest of the world have stopped Americans from entering their country after Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995? Or what about Eric Rudolph who bombed Centennial Olympic Park in 1996? Or should they have stopped us from entering their countries after Wade Park attacked a Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin? Are these men an accurate representation of white American men in today’s society? Seems to me, that according to these governors that they are and the rest of the world should protect itself from any Americans that are trying to enter their respective country, just in case we are all like these handful of extreme, crazy, unsafe American males.

While I understand the fear of an attack here in the States just as much as the next American citizen, it should not give us cause to become narrow-minded, bigoted people. We are Americans yes, but we are also members of a larger community, Earth.

ok so I got sick of all anti-Israeli sentiment on my dash and I went to read the Wikipedia article on Gaza uh "Israel advised people near military targets to leave before the attacks. Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri however urged the population of the strip to refuse to heed warnings and to use their bodies to shield Hamas facilities." what the fuck even I mean how do people manage to call Israeli the bad guy here I mean seriously this is literally war on terrorism URGED THE POPULATION TO USE THEIR BODIES TO SHIELD HAMAS FACILITIES what the fuck is that "government" I do not mean to raise shit but holy fuck so much antisemitic bullshit on my dash yes, that little girl will hate the Jews who killed her parents do you want to know Berliners' opinion on Soviet soldiers at the end of WWII time after time Gaza initiated attacks no, it's not the fault of the population it is not fault of the population of Israel either

My thoughts are with anyone affected by the bombs today. It is a true tragedy and I hope with all my heart there will be no more.
