The ground shook, it shook so violently that the ground look like the violent waves of the sea.
Richard lost his balance almost instantly, being thrown around until he was completely thrown backwards from the grounds to an area that seemed unnaturally still, he was disoriented as he was just thrown around like clothes in a washing machine but he sat and watched in morbid curiosity as there was the sound of a crack, like lightening struck the ground but obviously there had been no lightening.
The shaking stopped as cracks formed in the earth, they weren't noticable at first until with a sudden force these cracks, that seemed to go inward like a circle, made the ground collapse in on itself. Set up like some kind of ramp on all sides as the old classical carnival music started to play, something he would've welcomed if it weren't for the complete bizarreness of the situation. In fact the music filled him with dread because this was no circus hed visit with dear old ma on a warm summer's eve.
He heard the turning of wagon wheels and stood to try and get a better look, immediately regretting it from his bodies soreness from just recently being thrown a good few yards.
Balloons, hundreds of balloons shot from the center of everything, hard to see in the darkness of night but better lighted by the old wagons that came rolling up the ramp, lit by the light of the old gas lamps that were on the corners of them all.
He couldnt figure out what was with the balloons until the drifted closer, many many bodies attached to the strings, one for each balloon.
Of course he assumed they were all corpses before one, a regal woman in a vibrant, velvet purple suit landed, a cane in her hand she used to point and the rest of these carnies from hell would land where she instructed, they were still close to the broken earth so they couldnt see him or maybe they were ignoring him.
The wagons made a circle around the destroyed earth and it started to fill up while the clowns and ballerinas went to fetch something in a cage from the back of the fanciest wagon, another clown
The circus had come to town and it looked like it was going to be one hell of a show
