It’s been eighteen years since that fateful day that @antialiasis and I both sat down to write our first Pokemon fanfics.  And look, one time I wrote a whole essay on why TriLugia is totally the strongest fake legendary hybrid ever, so I should finally put my money where my mouth is and immortalize a fight with Molzapart, huh?

Well, this is possibly the most complex thing I’ve inked, and definitely the most ridiculous. It’s going to need some digital cleanup before coloring, and won’t be very good even then, but.

Triple Threat: The Making-Of

I had absolutely no intention to make a joke LC chapter this year.  I do have a particular joke idea I’ve been kicking around a bit lately, but for various reasons, it just wouldn’t work this year.  So how on earth did I wind up posting a joke chapter this year?  Well, three things happened:

1. I realized that, completely by accident, for the second time, I’d completed an LC chapter on March 31st.  I had a good laugh about this and complained lengthily on Discord about the fact that this keeps happening, and that I’d just have to post chapter 34 on April 2nd. (I’m sure in retrospect it looks like “oh don’t mind me, no jokes here, ohohohoho!” but it was 100% genuine.

2. So many people posted joke chapters!  More than I was expecting!  I wanted in on the fun, dammit!

3. Right as I was going to bed, Sutoraiku High dropped and that was the last straw.  I was hit with a sudden wave of sadness that I hadn’t made anything.  Heck, even if my original idea wouldn’t work, I could have just written something stupid with TriLugia.

And then I realized.  This was a unique opportunity.  I had, completely on accident, finished an actual chapter on March 31st that follows a cliffhanger with an impending Legendary attack.  Something stupid with TriLugia was in fact, a perfect fit.   I was never going to get another opportunity like this again.  I had to jump on it.

I absolutely had to write something stupid about TriLugia, and I had to do it quickly enough to post it before the end of the night (and since it was Monday, I had to do it sooner, because I have a class on Monday night.)

I spent literally every spare moment I could grab writing while I was at work.  I allowed myself absolutely no filter.  Everything was on the table.  The first and most obvious thing was that Stalker had to show up because he made TriLugia.  Except it clearly had to be his Revision 3 incarnation, so he was ridiculously condescending and overdramatic.  Since TriLugia was in, let’s go ahead and throw in the Dark/Light/Psychic crystals that resonated with its power. Except those got converted into the timespace orbs in Revision 12, oh what the hell, let’s just have the orbs revert back into being crystals.  How to end it... oh I know, how about I make TriLugia destroy the world, which actually happened in Revision 3 (it, uh… it got better.)  Then cap it all off with it being Palkia’s fault somehow.  Masterpiece.

After that it was just little details like shoving random inappropriate adverbs everywhere and making all of Stalker’s dialogue end in dramatic ellipses, and adding some nonsense about destiny.  I think my favorite thing is how it’s not even internally consistent with its own batshit logic.  (Chibi somehow heard about Experiment Number Thirty-Seven which implies that the Kanto force made it, even though it clearly had to be the Johto force.  And Stalker goes from wanting to take control of TriLugia to being alright with destroying it in the span of a few paragraphs.)

I wrote 2500 words in the span of a few hours, it was frantic and stressful and I am so infinitely glad that I did it.

The problem is that I can’t!  ^^;  The worst thing about all that Revision 3 nonsense is that there is still one tiny little nugget of a plot point that is still there, and will ruin absolutely everything if I spoil it.  That’s the only reason I haven’t actually posted any Revision 3 content (you have no idea how badly I want to.)

Of course now that makes it sound like the world is still going get blown up so I should probably take this moment to say that it’s not. :P

So if we assume that TriLugia and Molzapart are examples of convergent evolution between LC and QFTL:

Both fusions of three legendaries

Born from mist stone shenanigans

Ludicrously overpowered

Large plot significance

Then I propose that Hogia and Lugicune are a separate set of convergent legendaries:

They both just apparently exist for some reason?

Literally never explained

No plot significance

Mentioned once and then never again

Removed very early on

The main difference, as far as I can tell, is that Hogia is its own separate being, whereas Lugicune has the thrilling backstory of, "one day Suicune evolved into it I guess?"
