Queen Street renamed in honour of Janelle Commissiong

It’s been 4 decades since Janelle Penny Commissiong won Miss Universe both as the first Trinbagoian National and the First Woman Of Color to earn it in history. 

To commemorate such an achievement, she was honored with the renaming of “Queen Street” to “Queen Janelle  Comissiong Street” by the Port of Spain City Corporation. The announcement was made on July 16th, 2017 which was the anniversary date when she won the title. and then the official unveiling and renaming occurred on September 22nd in the same year.

FALSE: Machel Montano was not arrested

A news report was circulating on social media sites and gained a lot of attention with soca fans. The report was about soca superstar, Machel Montano being arrested at JFK Airport in New York for cocaine possession. But the problem with this story was that it is not true.

It turns out that the singer was never arrested but heading to meet his daughter for the weekend after receiving her scholarship at Ohio State Univeristy. It was then after receiving several calls abut the false report, Machel clears the rumors with his Instagram post stating:

“Now the more you do positive in life understand that there will be more negative opposing forces trying to counteract ! So while we spread love to a 20,000 full arena in Toronto in order to inspire positive change in our world , someone is busy defaming our character with a fake story on a fake website and have people all over the world wasting not only their time and energy to spread rumors or to debunk them but also blowing up my busy phone to ask me if I'm ok 🙂..... I'm wayyyyyyyyy ok ! I'm on my way to spend the weekend with my daughter who received a scholarship to OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY...which I'm so PROUD of ! So if you want to spread something spread love or peace ✌🏾❤️or spread that good news !”
