it’s easier getting little jamie to admit he’s tired than junkrat. little jamie yawns and rubs his eyes and promises to go to bed as long as he gets a snack and a blanket and a cuddle toy and his good night hugs. junkrat insists he’s fine and has to work until he crashes. little jamie doesn’t take ‘you’re tired’ as a challenge, most of the time
only problem is when little jamie gets sleepy-cuddly roadhog wants to cry. holding him in one arm, letting him curl up on his belly, roadhog has to keep his sniffles down. hog knew too many kids, held too many of his cousins like this, who either died or grew up too fast in the crisis. holding little jamie reminds him of that.
but jamie’s a sweet kid. he asks what’s wrong and hugs roadhog’s neck when he doesnt answer, and tells him he loves his big hoggy. and hog hugs him and rocks him and promises himself, this time, this kid, is going to stay safe. it helps that junkrat’s not a kid, all the time.
it helps that when there’s real serious danger, little jamie knows to hide back inside himself, and junkrat’s there to help.
it helps that little hog gets to come out, too. it helps that when junkrat’s big, little hog knows he’s safe. its helps when junkrat promises to take care of him, too.
it helps when they have a little hideaway all set up and trapped, and both of them can relax and play with their stuffed toys together, and eat fairy bread and kids snacks. even when junkrat tries to steal his toys to get his attention, or keeps poking him when he wants to nap, it’s nice having another kid around.
