triumph-over-fate:
Ludwig stares blankly as Franziska.
"I’m glad you like it"
Pure Dry Sarcasm.
Ludwig had high hopes for this marriage.
Not.
How he hated his father. He had not hated his father this much since his mother’s death. He had taken away his childhood, his freedom, his mother, and now he had taken away his right to court. Beneath this mildly sarcastic mask, he was enraged.
He hoped this woman would not be some court ditz at least.
Maybe, if he was lucky, she would have some skill at the piano.
Perhaps.
"If you don’t like it, you clean it or hire someone to. I haven’t the time, the will, or the money. "
[Of all the schemes Adam Liszt had come up with to get her noticed! Surely it would have been enough to claim tutelage from or at least acquaintance with Beethoven, but--to marry him? My God. You're lucky his family agreed, her father had said. You should feel blessed that Beethoven's parents would risk their granddaughters inheriting your nose! Hah. And he would risk his grandchildren ending up as hideous slobs like Ludwig, all for some--publicity stunt!
She could've hid her feelings, could've been quiet, obedient and ideal, could've started washing dishes and emptying the chamber pots. But she was never good at that--music had taught her too well to let it all loose.]
Clean it myself? I'll have you know I'd much rather be with my piano. Do you think I practice ten hours a day so I can be your hausfrau? You should be the one cleaning, seeing as you don't have my concert schedule.
