I was surprised when Chef Ludo Lefebvre opened a wood-grilled kebab pop-up next to Trois Mec in Hollywood. Love kebabs and I had high hopes that he’d do something interesting with kebabs. You can order single kebabs or a house plate (rice, hummus, tomato salad, steamed pita, your choice of 1 kebab and 1 sauce, $17.50). The menu also includes sides, sauces, desserts, beverages, and wine.
Vadouvan marinated lamb skewer with onion and zucchini: The cubes of lamb were tender and smoky, the veggies cooked through. It was a little salty. The rice was mess. It wasn’t the usual basmati rice but a long grain rice that was super salty and very oily. Hmm. The tomato salad was overdressed to the point of being slimy. The hummus was too loose and a little grainy but tasted fine. The best part was the fluffy, spongy thick pita and the creamy yogurt sauce (the simple things).
Mr. Froyo didn’t like the rice either.
I tried ordering online but it didn’t work. I was able to call and place an order. The kebabs are cooked to order so expect a wait of at least 20 minutes. They’re in a strip mall with limited parking. My order was neatly packed and the bag was stapled shut.
3 out of 5 stars.
