SITTING IN SOMEONE'S LAP | Accepting | @trollith
Joshua was used to people overlooking him. Most of the time it really was just for the best; he felt safer when he knew that no one was really focused on him and he could just blend into the background. There was always the risk that someone's gaze could suddenly snap onto him, that he would suddenly find himself scrutinized as his mere existence and worth was debated, but more often than not he was able to exist as just background noise.
It wasn't always for the best, of course.
He had been sitting and eating, the bowl of ramen likely heated up in a microwave and bought from a vending machine hardly nutrition but it was delicious (especially when he hadn't been able to eat anything else all day long), when he saw Jote approaching him. Joshua froze, but her gaze seemed entirely elsewhere, which was a good sign - or would have been, had she not then move to just sit in the same chair that he was sitting in.
He did everything he could to try to save the bowl of ramen, but there was no way to lift it up high enough to not be tilted from the sudden weight on his lap. It tilted backwards, thankfully, so the hot broth was spilled all over his front and lap - as well as whatever noodles had remained.
