Ratchet and Clank: a platinum worth getting
Right now a few lucky PlayStation 5 owners are enjoying the masterpiece that is called Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. So it makes sense for me to finally Platinum the 2016 game for the PlayStation 4.
I started playing the game in May 2020. Back then I wasn’t thinking of getting the Platinum. I didn’t even finish the story. Not the games fault; just life. A couple of weeks a go I went back to the game and finally finished it. This time I had the intention to earn the Platinum trophy.
To get the Platinum in Ratchet and Clank you need to start a second playthrough in Challenge Mode. Normally I’m not a big fan of trophies that require a second playthrough but in this case it didn’t bother me too much. The game it self is not very long and during Challenge Mode you have weapons that make the game even quicker than during your first run.
After finishing the story for the first time I took a break before returning to Challenge Mode. I just don’t enjoy playing the same game two times in a row withing a short period of time (that’s why I usually don’t enjoy this type of trophies). But after returning to the game I played trough it within two-three days and had the platinum a couple of hours later. In the end I needed to do some grinding to get the last couple of trophies (levelling up the weapons etc.). Overall there wasn’t much trouble at all and this trophy list is very easy.
The “hardest” trophy is probably the one that requires you to use a certain weapon on every enemy (the Groovitron): Death By Disco. I don’t think it’s possible to do this in your first playthrough so this needs to be done during Challenge Mode. This trophy is only hard because it is missable. I would advise to keep a guide at hand while going for this trophy.
During my first playthrough I had already used the Groovitron on some enemies which made me earn Death by Disco midway trough Challenge Mode. So you don’t need to wait until Challenge Mode to start working on this trophy. Just keep good track of the enemies you have used the Groovitron on and the enemies you haven’t used it on. And: use a guide during your second playthrough to prevent needing to play trough the game a third time.
The Death By Disco trophy is the trophy I dislike the most. Not because it is hard but because it’s missable. Until I earned this trophy I played Challenge Mode step by step using a guide; this kind of takes away the experience of the game.
I would rate Ratchet And Clank (2016) on the platinum scale of 8/10. It’s a real must have for every PlayStation owner. If you enjoy trophy hunting: this Platinum is a must have. It’s fun and the trophy list isn’t hard at all. If you just want a fun game to play and you don’t care for trophies: give this game a shot as well. It’s a great addition to any gamers collection.
Yes, I really want to play Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart. And I’m planning on doing so; but I don’t think I want to pay 70 euro’s for it. Especially not because I have enough backlog to keep me entertained until Rift Apart drops in prise.
