While I didn't sit and piece together all the complexities that would be involved, I knew one thing had to happen and how. The rest is just how I would have written it. How TROS should have ended
Ben and Rey kiss, hold each other, then make their way back to Takodana.
Other Resistance members are wary of Ben and give him wide berth, but they're also busy celebrating. And anyway, they trust Rey to know what she's doing.
Rey goes to embrace her friends Poe and Finn, all three of them relieved it's all finally over.
Ben, meanwhile, finds his mother's deathbed and shroud. He kneels beside it. A few tears - of regret, of grief, of love - drip from his eyes. Suddenly he feels a hand on his shoulder. He turns to see Maz standing there with a gentle look in her eyes.
"No one's ever really gone," she reminds him.
His eyes move to fix on something - or someone - behind her. A smile of relief spreads over his face.
Cut to Tattooine. Rey and Ben bury the lightsabers at the family homestead. An old woman passes by and asks them who they are. They both see Luke and Leia's Force ghosts in the distance, look at each other, and open their mouths to answer.
