I don’t really like the fact that Hake from WLB doesn’t hunt. There doesn’t seem to be a reason beyond that he just doesn’t want to, and that’s not a good thing.

Because he consciously refuses to take care of himself, his adoptive mother does it for him and even feels like she has to leave the family with him, a grown ass adult, to take care of him in a new dangerous environment she has to adapt to while completely abandoning her daughter who may also need her when he really should be able to be on his own without needing a babysitter at this point.

Again, it would be fine if there was an actual reason he’s incapable of living on his own (like a disability, many adults with those live with caregivers irl), but the only one that we’re presented with is his disinterest in learning how to. It’s like refusing to do household chores because they’re “boring”.

And its not really comparable with Trout’s troubles with fighting either. Fighting is something you only have to do on occasion and may not even need, even on their island, eating is something you have to do daily.

…Come to think of it Kelp doesn’t really fuss over Trout the same way she does with Hake. Well at least it’s clear who her favorite child is.

All this talk about Trout being babied by the narrative and WLB fandom and it’s actually Hake who is babied so much more, in everything. When he’s being an asshole by being ignorant he just “doesn’t know better”, while Trout supposedly should for some reason, his flawed actions are justified because he’s grieving his girlfriend, but Trout is whiny and annoying for being trapped in a position of power against her will and almost dying for it.

I get it, I don’t like her either, but I dislike Hake so much more, because he’s not “kind” or “gentle”, he’s just a spineless character who prefers blissful ignorance over having his worldview actually being challenged and taking action against injustice. He’s only pushed towards action when he’s personally wronged (by something that’s also caused by his spinelessness). I cheered when Bluegill roasted his ass after she found him moping on Tusk’s tree.

I got a little sidetracked, sorry. I just really hate the fandom’s infantilised UwU soft bois that are actually just… well, pathetic and spineless I guess

i think its funny to think "oh yeah it was only a matter of time before trout got assassinated and it should've brougth her attention to the corruption of the family and the fact that shes refusing to see that and even encouraging further corruption and separation within her family proves how privileged and selfish she is" and then having diamond hijikata flash before my eyes
