She turned the key four times until it would no longer move, the melody starting to chime in the silence of the room. It was such a beautiful haunting melody that she knew once upon a dream.
"Raindrops on roses..." She muttered, letting the chimes play on as she ease her stained crusted glove off her right hand. Bare hands grasped the bottom of the music box, watching the little turn key spin round and round.
The memories came back to her slowly like an old film playing with faded colours. Juniper dressed as Thalassa when her younger self happened upon her, immediately forming a motherly bond with the young girl. Hugh teaching her how to make a house of cards until she taught him how to do a magic trick. Her birthday when she turned five and the way they held her, reminding her that she was loved.
"I simply remember my favourite things...." Her voice cracked, different from before than when she was with Clay. Her chest grew heavier, suddenly overwhelming suffocating as the young magician fell to her knees. "And then... won't feel so bad..."
Something within her broke, making her drop the still playing treasure fall safely onto her lap. Her hands flew to her chest, grasping the front of her dress as she inhaled deeply. Everything hurt. Everything was painful. It was too much. Anger. Happiness. Relief. Fear. Despair. Regret. Guilt. Her eyes squeezed shut tightly as tears seeped through her barricades only to trail down the curve of her reddening cheeks.
The song was finally ending, stopping on such a happy note while the young Trucy Wright cried her eyes out.
What has she done? What did she do? She threatened the two people who treated her like their own child and stabbed the person she loved and cared for. A gasp of shock and despair escaped her as she stood up, knocking the music box to the floor.
"How is Clay? Is he okay? Oh my god, I didn't mean... I don't..." She couldn't stop crying. Why were they here? She just attempted to kill Clay. She threatened to kill them. All of her memories of her emotionless self were coming back to her tenfold. "D-Don't look at me. Just don't. Just go. I don't deserve your sympathy. Get out."
