A message from the members of the True Colours project
We are deeply saddened to hear that members of the Tumblr community have used this project as a reason to bully and in general behave disrespectfully to people who are not involved in this project. The project originated on twitter and we decided to include Tumblr due to the ease of sharing information and resources in ways that we just can’t do with twitter character limits. We never imagined that this decision would end up causing innocent people to be driven from their blogs.
Our decision is to remain anonymous, mainly being due to the fact that certain members of this group are members of the LGBT community and are not out publicly. Linking our public fan accounts to this project was never going to be an option. The emotional health and personal safety of these fans comes first. We apologize if this decision has made you feel uncomfortable as that was certainly never our intent.
We want to remind you that only the people who send us their address to receive the rainbow laces will be sharing their personal info. There are plenty of ways to support the LGBT members of the fandom without sending any personal information to us. You can still donate to Stonewall through our justgiving page, as the donations go straight to Stonewall. Your personal information and the donation do not come to us. You can also help by reblogging or retweeting our information posts. We also want to encourage you to contact us if there is a resource you are looking for regarding the LGBT community and we will do our best to find whatever resources or information you need.
If you believe in what we are doing and want to support the LGBT community, we hope that you will help us make this project a success. If this project makes you feel uncomfortable or you do not wish to become involved for whatever reason, we hope that you will respect the LGBT community enough to just ignore this project and end the harrassment and misinformation that is being spread.
To the Tumblr users who had to delete their blog due to the hate you received, if you are reading this, please contact us. We would like to offer you a gift certificate to the Stonewall store. I know it this doesn’t make up for the loss of your blog and what you have been through, but we are absolutely heartbroken that you went through this because of our project.
