this is a 100% post-canon au that i wrote in 2020-2022. it's based on dallas' rant to ponyboy in the car, "you’d better wise up, pony… you get tough like me and you don’t get hurt." it picks up on halloween of 1967 where ponyboy finds kids have left offerings and an oujia board on dallas' grave. after that, things get strange and dallas' ghost enters ponyboy's life with a lot of unfinished business to take care of: namely, ponyboy.
it's an au that was born out of a lot of things and covers a lot of the grief ponyboy felt, the way they did or didn't handle the way life changed, ponyboy's emerging sexuality, and an overall swim into what life would be like if your buddy came back from the dead. i have a syllabus on it that i'll publish one of these days, but who knows. i currently haven't worked on anything major with it in a long while but who knows. i'll probably revisit it eventually.

this is more or less my default au really. you can applaud @monstrology for this one as they turned me from someone who disliked omegaverse to someone who really enjoys it. i know some people aren't into it/have criticisms and to that i say: hear me out!
the outsiders is about class – and so is the way i handle omegaverse. i used it to explore gender, class, sexuality, all of that. socs are specifically beholden to their own views of "sophistication" vs greasers who consider their more primal instincts to be a net good. which means that they way they interact with each other takes on a really different tone here.
genderwise, i really enjoy it. i did the unconventional take and made ponyboy an omega. i'm nb myself and i wound up writing ponyboy as nonbinary here. i don't tag it; it's mean to be slowly understood throughout the story in how he doesn't always understand his body and dynamic and how it interacts with this ptsd and his relationships with each other. this one i just continually work on, though fire in the sky is on temporary hiatus while i get some chapters done (i never post without having one to two chapters started or done ahead of time).
instead of this being 100% canon, i basically cut canon off when pony and dallas get to the hospital together and then it takes a life of it's own. the main fic is fire in the sky and other fics are set between 1965 and 1983 going across their lives together. in this au – and pretty much all others – i establish dallas as being sicilian, the exiled heir to a mob family, oldest of three, and dedicated to ponyboy who grows up to be a librarian. i won't spoil everything but most things come from here. this includes his father, texas who's imposing and abusive – his mother odessa who ignites the abuse and who refuses to see dallas as human – his middle brother antonio who perceives dallas as a useful tool at first – his youngest brother austin who's a grade a fuck up – ace, who is dallas' cousin and extremely angry when dallas fails to come home.
in it, ponyboy reckons with his gender, his dynamic, the way that dallas' life impacts his, and the way their lives take them to and from tulsa. it also really impacts their relationship with johnny as well.
the otherside / soc au (tags: soc au tag, soc au); ao3 link
remember how i said omegaverse turned my brain? this is what happens when me and @monstrology fucked around in the DMs and made this, where dallas remains a greaser – but cherry, marcia are greasers, but the curtises, steve and johnny are socs while two bit winds up middle class.
probably my most popular series (@robinlovesglitter is president of the fan club) in terms of aus and i think i earned it. the premise is that it's johnny who winds up being killed at the fountain by dallas' hand while he and ponyboy flee for almost twenty years together to a small town in texas. it does more exploring class, gender and also just fits the idea i've always had that if dallas had gone up to jay mountain, he'd have lasted longer. it's an au i tend to ref a lot for certain stuff and it's one i'm also active working on. i have a massive rewrite of one fic underway and another one is being written. it's also posted out of order but a lot of events are currently mostly linear. (you could also say this was liar's moon inspired lmao)
oh look something born in the dms too (and also omegaverse! this is all on @kalonkakons really. fucked around in the dms and they went "what if ponyboy was atreus' son?"
that mixed in with some pre-existing fandom salt to make: what if ponyboy was the affair baby? he doesn't look or act like his brothers and maybe that's the reason why.
the premise is that jennifer, mrs. curtis, had problems after soda's birth. she struggled with what we now know as post partum depression and in a bid to try and put herself back together, she leaves tulsa to go to philly. there she meets atreus pelopides, a greek-american deli owner who's fourteen years her senior, a single father of three and just wants her to remember to grab her food. they form a relationship together – one that darrel knows about and doesn't get in the way.
jennifer eventually chooses her family in tulsa, goes home and ponyboy comes into the world, not knowing who his real father is.
...on ao3 at least. in the dms/lots of the tags, it gets a lot crazier. the myth of atreus is also the myth of the atreides, which involves things like "tantalus, atreus' grandfather, chopped pelops into pieces and fed him to the gods!" and "atreus deliberately took an arm off of a child and fed it to his family in a way that is very normal!" as you can imagine, this gets worked in. there's also menelaus, ponyboy's Favorite Brother – helen [that helen] who's dallas' younger sister – vincenzo who's dallas' grandfather who also just happens to have been atreus' best friend (and crush oops) – pelops, atreus' father and resident ghost with Lots of Opinions – and hippodamia, ponyboy's grandmother who also haunts the house.
this one has a lot of versions/continuities if anything seems contradictory that is why.
on ao3 it's daisychains under my psued. i generally just do familial stuff there, not much shipwise. atreus and ponyboy have a really layered relationship i really love. (pony's luke to atreus' vader).

this is agreed among friends to be my magnum opus and i agree. this is what happens with me pointing to timothy olyphant in justified and deciding he's adult ponyboy, and doing my own take on a mini genre of dallas/ponyboy fanfics. i'm just gonna drop the summary:
the last time he'd been in this police station, he'd been fourteen years old, a towel wrapped around his shoulders, teeth chattering, the smell of chlorine and blood invading his senses. the air had been tangy with fear, anger, and the people who were there in the early morning, trying to sort out what had happened in the park.
right now, he's thirty-two years old, no longer in a thin cut off sweat shirt, hair hanging in front of his eyes, terrified. he's got a hat pulled down over his head, a gun holstered at his side, and his eyes are watching bob sheldon stride down the hallway, not in handcuffs, but in a crisp suit and a smile that's wide, sharp, and straight. it still makes the hair on his neck stand up to see bob as an adult: to see his perfectly coiffed hair, the wedding ring on his hand, the way his voice rolls out, "marshal curtis. it's good to see you!"
(wherein ponyboy curtis is a federal marshal, sent to hunt down a childhood friend.)
