September 13: International Chocolate Day!

For this year’s best holiday to ever exist (kidding, kind of), we have decided to feature The Flavor of Wisconsin’s chocolate recipes! This recipe book was written by Harva Hachten, who requested families from all over Wisconsin submit their family’s recipes to be included. Below each recipe are submission details on where they came from.

Hachten was a well-known journalist and chef from Madison. She was women's editor of the Wisconsin State Journal from 1961 to 1968 and was publications supervisor for the State Historical Society of Wisconsin from 1973 to 1978. She also wrote for the Milwaukee Journal and was a columnist for Madison Magazine.

The Wisconsin Historical Society published Harva Hachten's The Flavor of Wisconsin in 1981. It immediately became an invaluable resource on Wisconsin foods and foodways.

So learn about Wisconsin’s history through food by making some chocolate cake, topped with chocolate frosting, and add some chocolate truffles to celebrate this wonderful day!
