Connor sat silently as he listened to the Captain speak, & for some time afterwards. He seemed to be deep in thought those precious short seconds, for they dragged as he considered. Most people, when hearing this kind of news would become afflicted with turbulent emotions they could either keep under control, or not, their minds racing, struggling to make sense of it all. But not Connor. The former detective was completely calm, as if he had just been informed of something commonplace. It felt like it, after all these years. He didn’t ask why Redfield was there when he did finally speak. He didn’t need to. Connor knew exactly why the man had come to him & why he was telling him all of this. He needed insider information most likely, or a profile, a way to discover the identity of the people responsible for this latest outbreak. Connor couldn’t help but feel there would be others, more victims of the last remnants of Umbrella.
Lips pursed lightly before they parted, gently arched brows knit enough to produce light but pronounced wrinkles in his forehead. ❝ They didn’t stay dead...did they? ❞ He felt he knew that answer already, but it did beg the question of how long it took the deceased to return from death-like hibernation. Umbrellas creations did not truly die before the change, as their bodies seemed to go into a kind of dormancy before rising again. No rigor mortis, no decompensation. The bodies would eventually rot from untreated injury & lack of oxygen to the less necessary external body parts. Skin, eyes, hair; it would all go eventually in preparation of their next transformation. The T-virus had been a formidable thing, but these new viruses were hellish. Connor remembered the reports he obtained on the A-Virus through Hunnigan some time ago. This felt worse.
❝ What can I do to help you? ❞ He assumed Redfield knew of his strange infection, the bite while in Raccoon of which he somehow survived, only to lose the young companions he had sworn to protect & find himself inside of NEST without any exclamation as to how he had gotten there. The manifestation of Umbrellas experiments had been kept in a kind of dormant remission through antiviral medication & careful monitoring. He suspected it was only a matter of time before all treatments failed. He also suspected Redfield knew about his past & chose him for a reason. It wasn’t just Leons favor that had the Captain knocking on his door. Something else was happening & Connor felt a pull towards it for reasons he couldn’t explain. He didn’t know why, but he was drawn to this.
