“It’s okay not to be okay.” I hope Beth (and my future children?) always know this: that they are loved beyond what they can ever imagine, and that they are beings of worth and value even when things may not always seem right. . Had some rough conversations lately that made me realise (again) how fleeting life is. More and more young people have been struggling with choosing life over death, and it still remains such a difficult topic to talk about. It pained my heart to hear about a girl in her teens (whom we know personally) who had written her mom some suicide letters recently. And the realisation of the many that struggle with their mental health, especially those who are young and who feel like they are not heard is just so heartbreaking. . We live in such a tough world. I hope we each love fiercely enough that those around us know there are people who are willing to stand with them when they cannot stand. If more of us talk about the struggles and realities of suicide, perhaps people will have a chance to be heard, and will have the opportunity to find change, and that they won’t feel like they are without a choice. Of course this sounds like a very simplistic wish for such a deep issue but it all starts somewhere, doesn’t it? . Many have said that if they knew the signs better, or if they knew how to ask someone struggling, they would be more inclined to help. World Suicide Prevention Day was just on 10 September but 12 September (today!) is R U OK? Day, Australia’s National day of action against suicide prevention, and they have some helpful tips and guides that everyone should take a look at.
