Shower thoughts:

Everyone who arrives at the Gate should be naked. It's the gate of TRUTH. Artifice and deception should be stripped from all who stand before Truth, yeah? So it would make sense for people to lose their clothes, to not be able to hide. That thinly veiled Christian film that covers a lot of Arakawa's world building would mean that clothing was meant to hide shame, to hide sin, like in Genesis. So Ed would be NAKED every time he goes to the Gate - first when he was ten and last when he was 16. Hell, we almost got that as canon given Al's body spent five/six years naked at the Gate. Ed should be as well.

Imagine how much more horrible the already horrible experience of those hundred little hands touching you and picking you up and moving you and disaccembling you would be if you didn't even have thin protection of clothing to cover you.

... Yeah, headcanon accepted.
