In this post I’m going to share a truth about me that may help you to feel more comfortable about sharing your own work. 😎 BEST ADVICE I can give an artist that has nothing to do with actually creating art — 3. ACT FEARLESS 🤓 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was raised to be modest. As I grew up, I’ve come to realise that modesty is possibly the worst trait an artist can have. Modesty works fine at school, because teachers must look at and judge your work. Upon graduation the world is much different. Not only are you competing with your peers, but you are competing with artists all around the world with decades of experience. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In my natural state, I am a painfully shy, modest person. Others, extrovert artists and people, would tell me I just had to get over it and get in front of people. As if that was easy! It is the equivalent of telling someone who has suffered a severe injury that landed him in a wheelchair to shrug it of and get up and walk. Just because my “scars” are not visible, it does not mean that they are not there. Every time I have to stand in front of people, I feel physically ill. I have been programmed for years to be one way, and now I’m expected to act the exact opposite. I have been working on becoming more assertive for over a decade now, and I still feel incredibly awkward when I have to approach and ask people for anything. Even sharing my work on social media has been a nightmare.
