The famous duel between Jurko Bohun & Michał J. Wołodyjowski
Picture from a vintage Czech edition of H. Sienkiewicz's novel "With Fire and Sword" ("Ohněm a mečem"), published in Prague, 1926, illustrated by the great Czech artist, Věnceslav Černý (1865-1936).

Cossack with a banner
My little artwork because for quite a long time I haven't published any new Cossack Princess here. It was created using some really "mad" mixed techniques because I wanted to achieve the effect of a vintage postcard or poster: the basis of everything was a simple pencil sketch, then scanned and corrected (using the increasing contrast option), then printed on my old home printer and then "coloured" with watercolour pencils and tinted water-soluble graphite pencils, and, yes, also some white pen at the end.
Bohun in the Polish & Ukrainian art
On the left: Bohun before the duel by the Polish artist, Fryderyk Pautsch (1877-1950), oil on canvas, 1927 (painting inspired by the novel "Ogniem i mieczem")
On the right: Bohun on the battlefield by the Ukrainian artist, Mykhailo N. Dobronravov (Михайло Миколайович Добронравов, 1904-1979), oil on canvas, 1952/1954 (painting inspired by the Cossack hero's real life)

The Ukrainian Cossack Hero
Piotr, a very talented Polish artist, who I have a pleasure knowing personally (and who has no Tumblr or other social media account), agreed to draw Jurko Bohun specially for this blog. For the time, I can't draw him by myself. Pencils & charcoal on paper.
The Polish hero, Jan Skrzetuski, is coming soon to accompany him...
