Gameplay mods and Suggestions for The Sims 2
Part of my attempt to curate a list of suggestions for a fallout themed sims 2 save. Currently a work in progress I may add more links as I find them.
Gameplay Mods:
There’s a lot of different mod lists out there that include ways to make the game harder. Earning less money, more dangerous fires, more dangerous illnesses. You’ll probably want some of these or you’ll want to give yourself some rules like not allowing sims to have a job. In order to make scavenging and other off the land game-play interesting. I won’t list all of them since a lot of them are in other mod lists and fairly well known.
One mod I haven’t seen much is this mod by Lamere designed to be similar to living in a cheap apartment like the sims 4 city living pack.
If you want to center your gameplay around scavenging there's a few options. There’s a few mods out there for enabling the salvage trash interaction for example: Squinge's, or CJs. You could also choose to use a variant of Mod ur Dig, such as this one or you could make your own. If I get around to it I might make one that includes fallout themed cc.
Instead of, or in addition to, you might want to use the castaway careers: Hunter, and Gatherer&Crafter. There's the OG hunting spears, or this revamp.
You might want your sims to focus on living off the land and you can do that with vanila gardening. But you could also add some fallout crops to your game.
You may also want to use other Sun and Moon sets if you like the idea of sims making things by hand. Some of the sets even have options for more modern or fallout styles. This forum contains the info and pictures of each set.
If you want to add other Sun and Moon sets make sure you check the manual for which dependencies you need. Unlike the other garden mods by sun and moon I don’t think the fallout crops have any tie ins with the planting overhaul.
Here's a list of Zombie mods you might want to use.
Functional objects:
You might want these 9 functional guns.
You might want a poision crafting station to simulate running vault experiments or just as a way to add more drama.
If you’re looking for violence mods and especially if you’re trying to set up a new Vegas style save, you might want these war sets. There's also a more NSFW set you can find elsewhere on the keep.
crispsandkerosene has a few different functional objects you might want: Functional shooting range, it's very military style but that might work perfectly for some builds. This fixer-upper car variant since it’s closer to the 50s vibe of prewar fallout. And last but certainly not least these functional radioactive barrels.
Challenge gameplay:
If you’re fond of challenge game-play there’s a few challenges out there.
This version of the challenge has starter lots and mods that help you keep track of the rules.
There's a few rule sets out there that are designed for the sims 4 that you may find ways to adapt to a sims 2 game. Personally I'm wondering how something like Murkland might be adapted.
I'm really intrigued by the potential of making all your sims work in a robot factory.
In the sims 4 vault tech challenge they recomend using basemental's mods to simulate testing the effects of drugs and withdrawal as a valt tech experiement. There aren't many mods like this for the sims 2 but there is pandora sims growable weed (maryjane 1 and 2). Deco weed objects here. There's been a few edits to the OG weed mod: One that's just a plant and compatible with the gardening overhaul. And other one that has the improved look but still functions as a drug (this edit has also been enabled for OFB).
You could do something similar with an actual alchohol mod (3t2 traits version).
Speaking of the planting overhaul, you could use this in addition to a mod-ur-dig edit to make it so that farmers have to find their seeds.
Neighbourhoods:
I would recomend playing in either a city or desert hood. A murder mystery or a hood that already features aliens is also a good idea. Fallout does have canonical aliens and it gets weird sometimes so you might want to include various alien stuff if your game. Especially if you want to head-cannon the aliens (or other supernatural creatures) as the result of a vault experiment.
If you want a predecorated neighbourhood, Psychosim harbour might be of interest.
