The well-worn trail along the mesa at Tsankawi. Foot traffic has worn deep into the soft tuff stone that makes up the majority of the mesa, creating sections of trail that are almost waist deep and extremely narrow. This trail has been used for hundreds of years, as the Ancestral Puebloans who inhabited the cliff dwellings nearby used to travel from the mesa to their farmland below. Walking barefoot or wearing sandals had the same effect on the tuff over time, and modern footwear from hikers has only continued to erode the trail. . . . . . . . . . . #newmexico #NewMexicoTrue #nmoutside #nmnomad #instagramersnm #TravelNM #beautiful_newmexico #nmco #bandalier #tsankawi #nativeamerican #hike #landscape #alltrails #modernoutdoors #roamearth #rediscovertheearth #ViewBug #earthfocus #TLPicks #OurPlanetDaily #lonelyplanet #lpfanphoto #landscapephotography (at Tsankawi) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpToYaxl6OH/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=69oavlyz5e5v
