Got a couple questions I'd like to clear up if you've got time. First off, I'm kinda confused are those people within the Mad Blood really dead or just souls without bodies like Crona or something along those lines. I mean we were told Ragnarok was melted down and he's clearly still alive (at least until he was consumed by Asura) and Tezca is physically dead but he's able to manifest himself. Second, in regards to the time skip has it really been a year because I've got some doubts(no offense).

You’re referring to Feodor and Tsar Pushka, I’m guessing.

Maka herself stated that the pair were alive. Death the Kid’s later comment regarding them has him refer to what Crona did “amounts to murder”. Meaning that even if they’re considered alive, there’s at a state in which they’re unable to do anything. The wiki itself (thanks to Soul-Dwelling) addresses that point on Feodor/Tsar’s page.

EDIT: Far as I can say, their body were transformed into black globes.

Concerning the timeskip, it’s a year as far as I know. Have your concerns but Ohkubo revealed the ages of Death the Kid and Soul Eater throughout the series and both of them are coincidentally 13-15. This would mean the main, present story we’ve focused on all takes place within the timespan of 3 years.

We know NOT! is a prequel and takes place a year before the events of Soul Eater (the Prologues specifically). So we know a year passes at some point in the manga.

I placed it around Chapter 62 and Chapter 63. Harvar’s hair grows out in one of those chapters, meaning there’s a certain amount of time passing through. Not to mention Maka having gathered 99 evil human souls after defeating Arachne so that they can finally make Soul a Death Scythe. It’s a subtle time-skip. Before, the wiki actually didn’t recognize an obvious timeskip until Ohkubo revealed Death the Kid’s age.

New Meister (TezJasu Week, Day 3: Judgment)

Finished right before Day 3 of tezjasuweek concludes here on the East Coast of the United States.

How did Justin and everyone react when Tezca first brought home his new meister?

I think I insult fans of Soul Eater NOT at the end of this. I would apologize--but since that insult is kind of self-deprecating, I won't. :P

"I can't say this is who I expected for you to choose, Tezca."

The weapon shrugged. "What can I say? I thought this look would be good for me. You know, wear something ferocious during my first big mission!"

Tezca Tlipoca was wearing a paper bag over his head, upon which he had drawn himself of a sharp-toothed bear. The streaks of crayon did not make for a particularly ferocious appearance, yet seeing a teenager walking around with a hastily drawn paper mask over his face could be a bit unsettling for people around him.

The mask certainly was confusing for his classmates standing behind him. Spirit Albarn had slapped his hand over his forehead so many times that he was at a loss for how messed up this mission was as soon as this weirdo was added to their team--when the guy snuck onto the mission to begin with! Franken Stein tapped his foot, waiting to be excused so he could have a smoke in peace. Azusa Yumi was too busy studying how that crappy mask was held around his head with just a rubberband along Tezca's neck.

Marie Mjolnir, although the oldest of the students and hence the one held most responsible for the mission's failure, was too distracted to notice Tezca's mask. But she was not distracted by the mission's failure. No, she was too enamored by Tezca's recent finding, wrapped in a blanket that he cradled in his arms.

"So cute!" she whispered, her hands clasped, looking over Tezca's shoulder at the tiny bundle of matted hair. The young one's big eyes looked up at her, and he smiled.

Standing next to Marie, the child, Justin Law, sighed. He failed to see what was so impressive: he had seen more than enough babies that, honestly, he was not too interested in this conversation. He turned up the volume more loudly on his cassette player, his over-the-ear headphones failing to block so much of the noise around him.

"Oh, no question about the quality of your mask, Tezca!" Lord Death replied, tapping a foam finger to the forehead of his own mask. "But I was talking about your choice in a meister!"

"Oh. That." Tezca scratched the back of his neck, avoiding eye contact.

The mask Tezca wore had large eyeholes cut out of it, allowing everyone else in the room to see his expression. What those persons saw was certainly more than what Tezca himself could sense from his peers and teachers, though. The light in the Death Chamber was reflecting onto Death Scythe Pushka's helmet, blocking much of what his face could communicate to the teenager. Good thing, too, because with Pushka's arms crossed, Tezca could gather than his teacher was still upset. Pushka was frustrated at the foolhardy actions Tezca had undertaken, running in blindly on a mission he had no business sneaking upon. Tezca was the lucky one: whereas Feodor was going to need quite a number of stitches, Tezca only had to worry about where he was going to house his new pet.

"It is not a good thing to bring in this--this--creature!" Pushka said to Lord Death.

"Oh?" Lord Death asked. "You don't like monkeys?"

"Ape."

"Pardon?" Lord Death asked.

"Ape, um, Lord Death," Tezca said, haltingly. "Sir."

"But I only count one monkey."

Tezca blinked. "Sir?"

"You did say 'Eight,' yes?"

Tezca groaned, pulling up the mask so he could be heard more easily: how did Lord Death make himself heard with his own covering his face. "Ape, sir--ape! Not a monkey! Enrique is sensitive about this kind of stuff."

" 'Enrique'?" Lord Death then lifted his hands up. "Oh, how awesome! You came up for a name for it!"

"Him, sir," Tezca corrected again.

"But Lord Death!" Pushka interrupted. "He can't name it--"

"Him."

"Whatever!" Pushka shouted. "Once he names it--him--then he won't get rid of it!"

"Unless you want to open a door and send that monkey--"

"Ape!" all the students--even Justin--cried.

"--back where he came from, I see no reason why Tezca shouldn't give his new meister a name!"

Tezca's shoulders drooped. "I didn't _give_ him a name. _He_ told me that _was_ his name--"

Then his eyes widened. A smile formed. "You mean Enrique can stay?!"

"Of course!" Lord Death said, swinging his arm around Pushka's shoulder and pulling the Death Scythe in closer for a hug. "Why not let in an ape? We let enough weirdos into this Academy! I mean, the cops should have arrested Stein months ago after vivisecting all those fourth graders!"

As Stein's sick smile widened, Spirit and Azusa, who were standing the closest to him, grimaced and slowly backed to the sides, pushing Marie and Justin along with them.

"So I welcome our newest student!" Lord Death called. "Welcome, Enrique!"

Tezca practically squealed as he bounced. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! You won't regret it, Lord Death!"

"I had better not!" Lord Death called. "You've been needing a meister for the longest time, so make sure the tired guy gets to class!"

Tezca's eyes widened, as he held up an open palm towards the Reaper. "No worries! Let Enrique finish his nap after that long flight, and he'll sign up for classes tomorrow!"

"So," Marie interrupted, patting Tezca on his shoulder. "I think you ought to let someone catch up on his beauty sleep."

"Ah," Tezca said, happy to hear someone concerned for someone else's well-being. "No worries on that, Marie. I'm plenty beautiful already."

She frowned. "I meant Enrique. He's had a long day."

"But he is sleeping already," Tezca answered.

"Not with so much loud talking," said Justin, walking beside Tezca to look at the young ape. "But really, Tezca, you're going to partner with an ape?"

"You saw him back there, Justin!" Tezca replied. "He was so cool! He leapt across the trees, battered monsters left and right--and all with little old me, a mirror! So freaking cool! I mean, have you seen any other meister swing so well?"

"Spirit swings," whispered a voice behind them.

"Shut up!" Spirit cried at Stein.

Justin frowned. "I am sorry for sounding so judgmental. It is just...when you lack a meister for so long..."

The headphone-wearing child stared forward. Then he felt a hard slap on his back.

"Ease up, kid!" Tezca yelled. "I know you're name is 'Law,' but no need to be so judgmental!" 

"Shh!" Marie chastised.

"Oh, right!" the smiling teenager apologized. He then lowered his paper bag masked and continued. "Just between you and me, Justin, I think meisters can be a bit over-rated, so enjoy this time while you don't have one." Tezca then jostled the sleeping Enrique. "Now that I got this guy to watch out for, I have so many responsibilities. You know what it's like for a weapon having to babysit their meister all the time."

Justin heard a self-satisfied giggle behind him. He then heard Stein mutter in response to Spirit's laughter.

"I mean," Tezca continued, "you see what Marie has to put up with from Joe--"

"But do I have to put up with from Joe?!"

"Shh!" Tezca said.

"Oh. Right." Now it was Marie's turn to apologize. "But what is wrong with Joe?"

"He does that burly tough guy act all the time."

"I'm okay with that," Marie said, dreamily.

"And he does that weird shimmy dance," Tezca said, as he began to wiggle his hips, "over coffee."

Marie pouted. "I like his wiggle."

"That what kids are calling it?" Lord Death whispered to Pushka, who simply slapped his hand over his helmet.

"And Azusa has that weirdo--what's their name?"

Azusa frowned. "Do not insult my meister."

"In any case," Tezca concluded, again slapping the annoyed Justin on the back. "Enjoy your single days, buddy! You don't need no meister to weigh you down at such a young age!"

Justin closed his eyes. "An ape wielding a mirror, and a guillotine without a partner. This is indeed a bizarre Academy."

"Could be worst," Tezca said. "We could be stuck in the NOT classes."

Justin's eyes widened. "Oh. Yes. Those students can be quite annoying."
