7, 13, 14, 15, and 24 for tsarennnnn

Thank you for asking after the lionman! Questions are from the useful/fun character development questions for couples list!  For context: Soren is married to his childhood bestie, Batsarnai (they/them), aka Tsar.  7. Do they (or would they) pursue the other character’s affection, and if so, how? Do they tell the other character how they feel? Try to earn their admiration? Woo them with romantic gestures? Flirt with them, skillfully or otherwise?

Soren felt platonic love for Tsar long before he ever realised it was also romantic. They’ve been such close friends since they were children, including being physically affectionate, so it’s hard to imagine Soren pays much attention to pursuing Tsar’s affection. He just does what comes naturally to him- he’s honest with Tsar, he has no pretenses around them. If Soren flirts, it’s probably in a very joke-y manner. Their parents have long earmarked both of them as potential partners in an arranged marriage, so Soren flirts to mess with the pressure he feels that he’s being socially pressured into marrying his childhood bestie. So when Soren realises that perhaps this is also romantic love, perhaps it is a good thing- the best thing- to be married to his best friend, he does his best to neither rush nor pressure Tsar into anything. But he is so comfortable with them, he probably just sat them down one evening and told them that…y’know…maybe…listen…I think I love you more than just a friend. 

13. What is their go-to for making a partner feel loved?

A big ol’ pampering. Draw them a big ol’ bath, scented just the way they like it. Give them a good scrub down, let them settle in the bath with whatever they want- a little snack? Music? Scented candles?- and settle beside them to chat. Or rub them down, working out all the knots in their muscles. When they’re ready and nice and dry (with freshly warmed towels!), Soren will happily comb through their hair while they do their skincare routine. It’s time well-spent, and gives him plenty of time to show Tsar how much he loves them.

14. What makes them feel loved? Would they build up the courage to ask for it?

Not that Soren wouldn’t appreciate a big ol’ pampering from Tsar, he just thinks a proper bath is proper me-time. Instead, he loves it when they laze together in comfort, draped over each other and doing their own thing. Soren loves it when Tsar lies on his chest or shoulder, and when he gets to be the big spoon. He feels like Tsar really trusts him enough to be so relaxed, and that trust in him really makes him feel loved. Soren will happily offer, either with a word, or a little gesture. Another little gesture is sharing food with him. He gets to eat off Tsar’s spoon/fork? Double yay! Haha!

15. What, for them, constitutes a level of intimacy that they would only rarely share with someone? This can be physical, emotional, etc. 

Sharing personal stuff. His food, bed, the bedroom, his problems, his thoughts and insecurities, his favourite things, his definitely silly sleeping positions…

24. What would their partner do that would really turn them on, perhaps unintentionally?

…That thing. Yaknow. When a strap or a hem kinda slips off the shoulder and a bit more skin is (un)intentionally revealed…that… yaknow?

Last but not least, for Soren:

22. Nap

“Have you seen Sulendi Soren?” Titus asked a passing guard, who snapped into a salute.

“Ser! I mean! Ava Sulendi Titus! No, ser! I mean!” Titus dismissed the confused reply with a wave of his hands. It was understandable. He was merely Sergeant or Prince Titus just two days ago, and he had not made his first public appearance as king yet.

“…I have seen his personal guard enter the south garden, if that helps, Ava Sulendi?” The guard offered in apology.

“Perfect, thank you,” Titus exchanged an awkward bow with the guard, and went towards the south garden, the warmest garden that enjoyed the most sunlight during the day, an admirable greenhouse that supplied much of the fruits and vegetables for the palace.

But there were so many areas. Titus went on a hunch and tried the tomato section first, just because such heavy fruiting plants might enjoy more sunlight than-

True enough. Soren’s long body stretched the length of the sunlit bench he occupied, legs spilling awkwardly off the edge, but he looked like he didn’t mind at all- he was taking a nap, his head in Batsarnai’s lap.

Titus approached the bear Beastfolk warrior, whose ears perked up from the sound of his footfalls and gave a little wave. They were dating, though Titus wasn’t sure if Soren had intentions to marry Batsarnai just yet. That would be lovely, Titus thought they made such a handsome couple. 

“Hi, Tsar. There you two are.” Titus greeted them.

“Hi, Tisha! Solya’s…well,” Batsarnai looked down, running their clawed hands gently through Soren’s hair. Soren was fast asleep indeed, tunic riding so high it exposed his abdomen to the sunlight. Soren wiggled.

Titus scoffed. Big cat. “Unfortunately for him-” Titus laid his hand onto Soren’s belly and rubbed HARD.

Soren bolted awake with a yowl, twisting off the bench in a move that was more feline than human. Titus barely managed to jump out of the way, laughing at his older brother.

“T-Titus?!” Soren’s world came into focus, and his leonine irises relaxed. “Wha- …you got a good reason to ruin my nap?”

“Sure do. You’re late. The meeting with Father, for this whole king business. Remember?”

Soren’s eyes turned to saucers, his tail did a comical thing. He smacked his forehead and cursed. “…I really forgot. Gods, shit, fuck, how late am I?”

“About 20 minutes. By the time we get back there? We could make 32 minutes if we run now.” Titus checked his watch.

“Fuck running,” Soren rearranged his robes, retied his hair, and the air suddenly surged, crackling with magic as Soren started carving the glyphs to open a portal.

“Uh, have fun? Hope you’re not in too much trouble,” Batsarnai said.

“Sorry, Tsarya, I’ll see you later- FUCK, WRONG-” Soren swiped at the incorrect stroke, scrambling to redo it. Titus watched unhelpfully, he had never learnt this stuff. Soren growled low in his throat, muttering something about his thick fingers and the mistake of filing his nails this morning and then suddenly yelled. “OK DONE, C’MERE-” He seized Titus by the arm and hoisted him roughly onto his hip like a sack of rice. “-OK LOVE YOU BYE-” He yelled at Tsar, slamming his fist into the glyphs to activate it, disappearing with an ungraceful crackling that left sparks and the scent of fireworks.

1. What is your name? Hello! My full title is Sulendi Soren. I am brother and fellow king to Ixander. My big brother's kind of like my boss, so to say.

2. What is your real name? Soren! You can call me that.

3. Do you know why you were called that? Ya know, I've never thought about that! Good one. 4. Are you single or taken? I am wed to Batsarnai (@lorspolairepeluche), but I am expected to take on more spouses in my lifetime, whether for love or for political reasons.

5. Have any abilities or powers? I'm a mage! Not as supremely talented as my brother, Ixander, but I mostly use my magic in battle. I'm not very good at it nor do I specialise in it, however.

6. Stop being a Mary Sue. Was I? Haha! Is that a bad thing?

7. What’s your eye colour? Gold? Yellow? Amber? Something like that? Like a lion.

8. How about your hair colour? It's dark brown, except for these front pieces. They're lighter for some reason. I don't mind, though!

9. Have you any family members? Oh. Beastfolk tend to have big families. Myself, my family's got a whole position that keeps track of the family tree. What was that title called- a genealogist! Yeah! Royally speaking, I have two royal siblings- Ixander and Titus. Then you wanna include their parents... I got my own parents, so... T hen my mother has plenty of consorts, so I have even more siblings that direction, but they're not considered royal... Oh, and I'm married, so I have to consider my in-laws and their families... See what I mean? It's complicated! Haha!

10. Oh? What about pets? Ooh, that's a...I don't like that concept for me. Feels weird somehow.

11. That’s cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don’t like. Deep bodies of water. (shivers)

12. Do you have any hobbies/activities you like doing? Listen...what is life if you don't have a big ol' party with lots of food and singin' and dancin' from time to time? There's always something to celebrate in life!

13. Ever hurt anyone before? Wait I wasn't quite done thinking about parties...um...yes, of course.

14. Ever… Killed anyone before? I say yes, and proudly so.

15. What kind of animal are you? Oh! I'm a lion of the Beastfolk race.

16. Name your worst habits. I...hate studying. And being serious. Like, pomp and ceremony serious. I always get terrible urges to crack inappropriate jokes then, I'm terrible.

17. Do you look up to anyone at all? So many... my brothers, definitely. My partner, Batsarnai, too.

18. Gay, Straight, or Bisexual? (squints) So...I don't really use these terms for how/whom I love so...I... (checks dictionary)...am gonna say Bisexual...????

19. Do you go to school? (laughs heartily) I should go back to it, honestly!!!

20. Do you ever want to marry and have kids one day? YEAH! Well, I'm married. YEAH I'd love to have a big family!

21. Do you have fanboys / fangirls? Hahaha that would be so funny! I don't know and I'm a little afraid to find out!

22. What are you most afraid of? Failing the ones I love.

23. What do you usually wear? Um, I have these few blessed souls who figure it all out for me on the day-to-day, and bless them, I'm picky... I like my clothes comfy, and being Royal usually means wearing stuff that is the opposite of comfy...

24. Do you love someone? I sure do. I love many someones. Does that make it Somemany? Haha!

25. When was the last time you wet yourself? ...Probably peed myself a little last time I laughed too hard at this joke...I was a little drunk and stupidly holding it in because the jokes were getting so good. Ya know the feeling?
