sports makes me happy. cliche but, its made me happy my whole life. from the moments i was competing and dreaming of playing professionally (which didnt happen since i had to stop training due to the lockdown) to all those moments i watch live on tv. and today, something happened that made me the happiest i have been in a long long time and it was because of sport. i haven't posted anything about it here because no one really follows cricket but. today something huge has happened because the red team finally won. MY RED TEAM FINALLY WON.
i have been a ferrari fan my whole life and i have been waiting for their win for so many years and its the exactly same number of years that i had been waiting for my ipl cricket team to win- with all the same narratives of always being one of the top teams but never being good enough for the trophy, or coming so close to winning but not quiet, or having one miserable year over the other- did uk the 'next year' memes and motto actually came from us? i might be wrong but i remember when f1 used to race in my country in the early 2010's, everyone was comparing ferrari to this ipl team cause and saying 'next year is our year' and i think thats when i also saw other fans saying that for ferrari... but anyway, my point is, today we finally won and its really hitting very very hard
today i screamed the way i had screamed when max won his first championship. the way i cried in that night of abu dhabi in 2021. and it feels so euphoric because not only has it been such a long wait but also because it is MY CITY that has won its MAIDEN win with our country's favourite player in our team who sacrificed 18 years of his youth in his team while going through the same trials and tribulations and mockery as charles (except for more than 18 years instead of 8). it probably feels more special than even a ferrari championship would because this is my home team. whose matches i have watched in the stadium multiple times. also, even though its past midnight here, everyone is going out to celebrate, theres so so so many fireworks going off because this sport is my country's biggest sport and it just. feels euphoric.
i am sorry for the rant but i had to let it out here on anon because i am a lurker and i dont post but i also wanted give some hope to some others on your blog- whether they are max/charles fans- because the season is LONG (longer than ever) and anything can happen. this year, my ipl team- we started off weaker than we usually do, and had little chances of winning at all but we somehow reached the final. today's match itself was looking (very) bleak, especially after the first innings but we. did. it. and its fueled my hopes for both max and charles this year and anything can still happen! i beleive because beleiving and hoping is the best thing we sports fans can do.
and finally, if u dont mind, can u share about what makes/made u happy as well? no pressure!
a red team winning!!! if that's not the hope we all needed... and it's true that sports is all about believing, no matter how dire things get. sports can get frustrating, but what else is there if not hope? i'm very happy for you and your team. the stars seem to really have aligned there!! i can firmly sense your happiness and euphoria just by reading this lovely ask. ❤️ thank you for sharing this with us.
what makes me happy? serendipity, and chance. there recently have been so many lovely things happening by complete accident, or that have exceeded expectations that it's simply lovely to believe in the universe doing its thing, and guiding us to where we need to be, and meet the people we should be meeting. we tend to want to plan everything, and have control over our lives, and that's human, but sometimes, sometimes it's so nice to let go and believe in things working out.
