Right below this on my dash is someone saying "get those abs off him" soooooo. You're not alone in this
Hehe, I feel slightly justified. :D
I'm not sure why I feel particularly frustrated about this right now, maybe it's because I've been seeing a lot of talk about the bodybuilder-type physique on social media lately.
I feel people have absolutely lost perspective what an actual human body looks like. If you train your body for function rather than aesthetics, be that for sports or in the context of work, the likelihood that you end up looking like a gym bro is relatively low.
Not to mention that maintaining a gym bro physique is very "expensive." It takes a very specific type of training and diet to turn you into the guy with the rippling muscles, and for people who aren't hitting the gym basically every day of the week, maintaining that look is simply not realistic.
Someone who does a lot of physical work will likely have at least somewhat muscular arms and legs but probably won't bulk up too much because that might be a hindrance rather than an advantage depending on the work you do. Not to mention that you can be physically strong without the rippling muscles. Some people simply don't build a lot of muscle mass, or the type of activity they do and diet they have is not conductive to "bulking up".
So it's very weird to me that people always use muscles as a shorthand for 1. physical competence and 2. physical attractiveness. Quite aside from my personal preferences, I think it perpetuates a stereotype that's very unhealthy, and should preferably be left in the past.
