I actually can't get this panel out of my head. The genuine shock and disbelief in his eyes, the way his body is positioned, the broken watch (which, as someone on twitter pointed out, was a gift from Kōhei), the knowledge that this is all unfolding at a stage where he's able to feel pain, the fact that he trusted Kurebayashi enough to enter the tunnel despite not sensing impurities in it to begin with... I don't think I'll ever be able to stop thinking about this.

I think that Yoshiki might get beheaded - SPOILERS up to 40.3

I started thinking about this bc of the way that the places where doll Hikaru’s stuffing was coming out ended up reflecting Hikaru’s recent wounds.

It’s not exact, but I was always so curious as to why there was stuffing coming out of Hikaru’s leg and his arm—and now we know why. So, I think the dolls are a good source of foreshadowing for future wounds. (I’m not even gonna get into the way that doll Yoshiki’s left arm and right eye is missing 😭 I’m worried about him…)

Further into the neck stuff: they parallel each other here with rings around their necks.

And there’s focus on Yoshiki’s neck here too. So, it seems like there’s a chance Yoshiki will also get beheaded. If it does happen, I think he’d be fine bc of all the mixing. I hope so at least 😅

Also, if it does happen, Hikaru would parallel human Hikaru’s ancestor—which I think could be really interesting! Especially since we already had a moment where Yoshiki paralleled that ancestor, as well (when Hikaru’s head was cut off).

Last thoughts. I thought these pictures were interesting too:

If he doesn’t get beheaded, he might suffer some kind of head trauma?

And I thought it was curious that Hikaru saw the little girl’s body (including her head), but when it came to looking at Yoshiki, Yoshiki’s head was cropped out of the drawing. I think this was very much deliberate.

oh my god 40.3 im not okay i need to analyze it so badly

im going INSANE. way back i said "kurebayashi sold them out to the exorcist corps" and i was fucking RIGHT oh my god.

she looks like she regrets it/is shocked, a little bit, so im praying she'll let them know as an apology (pre-beach scene considered ripping "hikaru" from hikaru's body, but finally decided not to because hikaru has family/friends who will miss him - at the very least she probably would do them the favor of not having to wonder what happened) and then tanaka/asako/yoshiki can go save him. and it will be hopefully not too late.

also. exorcist corps lady (forgot her name) having completely black, dead eyes, until the very last panel where she turns to kurebayashi and says "thank you for your cooperation"... firstly it's a direct throwback to the very same words coming from kurebayashi's phone earlier (also when i first said she betrayed them) and secondly. the light in her eyes at that moment. she's achieved her goal, she captured the lost child entity (there's like six different translations idk what to call them) it's such a good moment especially because it's underlined with the word "smirk". like. it's so unsubtle, such a direct threat, when contrasted at how kind she looks in that moment it means SO MUCH!!!

eyes are so important in tshd - looking at impurities establish a connection. and none of the other exorcists have eyes/faces except for her, and her eyes are so obviously dead/fake... going insane

anyway. rambles over. this is very rushed but hopefully understandable. idk when the next chapter is but i will be here waiting thumbs up emoji
