Hairstyle Name: Tsubuichi (つぶいち) lit. “First Seeds”
This hairstyle is a variation on the Shimada style. It would have been worn by young women, such as court ladies and aristocrats, who worked at the imperial court. It was popular among princesses of court nobility or young ladies-in-waiting to court nobles. This hairstyle was also seen on the Himegimi of the Tokugawa family. The abundance of kanzashi in the shape of flowers emphasizes that these ladies have not yet reached the age of adulthood.
