OMOCAT x Tsujita Artisan Noodle x hololive English is now available!
Ending my birthday weekend right! Unfortunately, the friend I was supposed to meet for dinner couldn’t join at the last minute, but I wasn’t going to pass up the chance to get a bowl of the best ramen I’ve ever had. It’s a nice cap to the weekend to sit and read at the counter with a bowl of delicious chashu ramen. #food #foodie #foodporn #ramen #tsujita #tsujitaannex #chashu #charsiu (at Artisan Noodle Tsujita Annex) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSDnuAnL_70/?utm_medium=tumblr
Killer Noodle, 227 W Valley Blvd 108A, San Gabriel, CA 91776
Killer Noodle (from Tsujita) drew large crowds when it first opened in 2017. More recently, they took over the Ajisen Ramen space in San Gabriel. The menu is limited, like a typical ramen shop, to three kinds of ramen/noodles: Tokyo Style (the best seller, sesame based dan dan noodles/tantanmen), Downtown Style (vinegar and chili oil base, tangy aftertaste), Original Style (tofu and ground pork). Choose the size (regular or large), soup or dry noodle, spice level and numbness level. You can also customize the noodle with add ins like charsiu pork, egg, cilantro, tofu, pickles, etc. They also have sides – rice bowls, fried chicken, pork buns and beverages.
It’s worth noting that the soup noodles come with a thin noodle and the dry noodle uses a thicker noodle. If you like thick, chewy noodles, get the dry version.
Downtown Style, spice 6, numbness 6, regular with poached egg ($12.65 + $1.50): Chicken and pork broth, chili oil, sansho pepper, vinegar, nikumiso, peanut butter, pickle, bean sprouts, cashew nuts, green onions. It looked very attractive with nuts on the side, a huge mound of ground pork, cucumber strips and spices. The sauce was oily but rich and super flavorful. Loved the tang of the vinegar. The heat was there but it wasn’t crazy (and I didn’t suffer any after effects). The peanut butter flavor wasn’t that strong but you could tell that there was a lot going on flavorwise. The noodles were nice and chewy. It was a good size but not huge – just enough without making me feel super full (leaving room for milk tea). Very tasty. I would have liked more veggies or some crunchy/fresh element. Yes, you can add those for a charge.
The server offered a plastic bib. The noodles are slippery and there’s a lot of chili oil, so it could get messy. If you put the noodle in the soup spoon, it helps reduce splashing.
There were four shaded tables on the sidewalk and parking lot. Someone started smoking near me (not in the dining area but right outside the dining area) and it was almost unbearable but I also couldn’t move or change tables.
