"Too Small Troll"

this was a commission of two images a friend of a friend requested. it was meant for a t-shirt print as a birthday gift for someone's girlfriend. i was told, "she is smart, strong and has a temper. she love's to play troll fighter character in our RPG rounds. but she's actually so small!" (*laughing) so there is it, a troll that still needs to grow, one themed for Shadowrun and the other themed for fantasy worlds like DnD.

sadly, the original pencil drawing no longer exists. i used to scan those drawings, then darkened the dark and mid tones to blacken the lines. then i used Photoshop (version 5 lol) to colorize and have the black outlines as the top layer. i didn't have a drawing tablet back then, so all colorization was done entirely with the mouse. in this one i cheated a little and used color gradients.

today i probably would have drawn the Shadorwun version different and the horns would be bigger. probably the teeth, too. but i still like this style somehow haha

In the 15 years my partner and I have been together, I’ve gotten used to finding myself in the thanking notes when she’s written something ever since her Master’s thesis. Because often enough she comes to me in need of a sounding board. Just as often I just sit there and nod – or I tilt my head when I have no idea what she’s getting at, causing her to rephrase/rethink until I do. Then she leaves with the words “Thank you! That was so much help” even though I haven’t said a peep. Earlier on I felt like nothing more than one of these bobbleheads (yeah, I used to be intimidated. She was an academic and I only have the barest of school education. I’ve learned pretty quickly, though, that I can ask her questions without being judged). Another reason why she was and still is grateful is the fact that I keep her fed when she’s deep in one or the other project (ho boy, hungry femme turning into a hangry femme? Um, no thank you! I also like to stick to my schedule ;)).

So yeah, I get thanks for one or the other or a combinations of things.

Now she’s gotten into TTEPG last December. That’s awesome. She’s plays a lot, started leading games and is now also hacking/re-designing them. I think Magical Pets (a Laser & Feelings hack) was the first (and the only game I ever played). There is a whole series of Brandelwoodbay hacks which she was part of, and among other queries I got a ton of questions about specific words in the dialect from the part of Germany I was born in - and that I don’t speak O_ô

The latest is some kind of rodent-band-winning contest. Yesterday, she showed me her prototype booklet. In the last line I found the words:

Joy is still my favourite rubber duck*.

*We discovered that there is such a thing as rubber ducking and I promptly sang to the Sesame Street tune “Quietscheentchen nur mit dir, brainstorm’ ich so gerne hier” which roughly translates into the rubber ducky being the fav to brainstorm with
