If Teen Titans Go plays instead of Steven Universe tonight
not gonna lie teen titans go does have funny moments and is very self aware sometimes but it feels like the writers are being held at gunpoint to keep making butt jokes
“ I don't like TTG. Not because of the characters, but because of how problematic it is. Abuse is often shown as funny. They lightened cyborg's skin to make him a light-hearted character, they make jokes about people with voices in their heads, and the characters appropriate cultures in various episodes. Is this what we want to show to children as funny? Abuse, Ableism, racism, and appropriation? It's disgusting. ”
Some TTG hater, one of many: Teen Titans Go! is a joke!
Me: yeah.
Me: It is.
Me: That's the point.
Me: That's what the creators were actually fucking going for.
Me: Glad you see that now.
“ I don't hate TTG because it's not a continuation of the original or even because it's aimed toward a younger audience. I hate it because it took the amazing characters that taught me so much about life and friendship and so many other things have all been reduced to perverted versions of themselves. Young kids today will never sit in front of the tv and literally feel love between the characters that I and so many others felt watching Teen Titans. ”
I'm curious, though: in what episodes of Teen Titans Go was there signs of ableist behavior?
robin being crazy as fuck to the point where hes literally unstable played for laughs, mostly. its not uncommon in shows [esp kids shows but tons of shows do it tbh] but its still ableist. its like “hahaha he cant control his actions cuz his brain is malfunctioning this is too funny” kind of stuff
Why? (explained)
I should specify why my last comment was so… errr... "rage-filled".
I don't know about you, but I just get so CHEEZED OFF when unnecessary hate is squandered on a children's show. (the show's been out for almost a year already, GIVE IT UP!) Its like my SOUL transforms itself to become the fiery pits of Mordor. I weep for humankind when times like these surface when we can't even introduce our children to characters we grew up with, just because a bunch of haters dislike the new interpretations of the characters.
Don't get me wrong I loved the old show and would love it ever so much more if there were a 6th season, but I miss the interactions between the characters more than anything.
… just give it up.
