Food and Vlogging With Young Kapampangan Chef Nikki Wilkerson

Nikki Wilkerson is a vivacious young person in the culinary scene in Pampanga. Here, she shares her insights on local ingredients, events and the art of posting video blogs.

1. What got you passionate about food?

I grew up in w Filipino Restaurant, my parents own Sweet Sensations which was in San Francisco, CA. Everyday exposure to food led me to think that food was my best friend.

2. How did you work to get better at your culinary craft?

I started baking at 9 years old and started selling desserts at school at the age of 14. I learned a lot from my mom, not just because I was passionate about it, but if I wanted to spend time with my mom, I'd have to work with her, since she spent almost the whole day at the restaurant.

3. What ingredient in Kapampangan cooking do you love to use and why?

I would say DUMAN is life. I don't exactly cook with it, because all I do is put it in Gatas Damulag, but it's my ultimate favorite Kapampangan ingredient. During my years in Culinary School in NYC, Duman is what I craved for the most.

4. What got you started on vlogging?

I started vlogging because I've always wanted my own show, but I want to do it the way I think speaks to my audience. I'm proud of Kapampangan culture but don't speak the Language very well. Most of my viewers are foreigners looking at what to do in Pampanga and that's exactly  the crowd I want to entertain.

5. Tell us about Table Trinkets.

Table Trinkets is a manufacturer and distributor of eco-friendly tableware. Mostly sourced around Asia and sold to the US Market.

MY DAD MADE ME SEE AVENGERS ENDGAME AND I HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG AGO THIS ASK WAS SENT. I’M SO SORRY. here’s all the fun facts I have at the moment:

Marcus Delenitor has a really huge sweet tooth. You could probably bribe him to do anything with like, a cupcake or something

Nina Delenitor loves puzzle games! If she lived in the real world, she would definitely be a huge Professor Layton fan

Both of my ocs with Death Magic (Katie Marrows, Theodore Osteolo) have skeleton-based surnames!

Millie Eya has had the same plushie of a dog since he was two and he loves it more than anything

Drophii and Biyu have been pen pals for years using the names “blue” and “spikes” respectively. The instant they met they developed crushes on each other

Marcus Delenitor is a pacifist

Roseline Nkosi really loves those documentaries on the lives of animals. She gets very invested in them very fast, and then it’s hard to drag her away from it

Chester Boxwood first dyed his hair purple when he was 9

Alex Katt, in addition to having bird legs and wings, also has small fangs in the side of his mouth

Addiel picked up gardening after he was turned, a way of reconnecting himself to nature after having become something unnatural. He calls everyone by the names of flowers he associates them with (ex. Marcus is “king protea” and Katie is “delphinium”)

Avery Acosta is the first person in the history of her world to learn how to use two different types of magic. She’s both an empath (heart magic) and a weather magician (air magic) making her very powerful and very smug

The predominant second language in my fantasy world after Common is Gynawis, the language of dragons.

Everyone names their own magic in TTKD, which is how you have one kid with a magic named “Floraflow” and another with a magic named “Light Manipulation.” Sometimes kids just suck at names.
